School board filings begin
The filing period for those interested in serving on their school board began at noon on Tuesday. The filing period lasts for only one week and will end at noon this coming Tuesday.
As of the end of the day Tuesday, two people had filed for board positions.
D. Clay Sloan of Walnut Ridge has filed for the remaining three-year term of Keith Brand, who passed away in May. Brand served on the Lawrence County School District Board, comprised of the consolidated Walnut Ridge and Black Rock schools.
Shane Dail of Ravenden has also filed for re-election to the Sloan-Hendrix School Board in Imboden.
Petitions can be picked up at County Clerk Tina Stowers' office in the courthouse. A candidate's petition must contain at least 20 signatures of registered voters who live in the candidate's school district.
The annual School Election is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 15.
The school districts and the board positions up for election are listed below. Unless specified, terms are for a five-year period.
The Hillcrest School Board Zone 4 position held by Craig Whitmire of Strawberry, is up for election.
The position held by Michael Hart of Sedgwick on the Hoxie School Board is up for election.
Three positions on the Lawrence County School District (Walnut Ridge and Black Rock consolidated) are up for election.
In addition to Keith Brand's remaining three-year term, two other positions are up for election on the board. The positions currently held by Greg Gill of Walnut Ridge and Pat Roby of Black Rock, are also up for election.
As previously stated, Shane Dail's position on the Sloan-Hendrix School Board is up for election.
