ELECTED OFFICIALS RECEPTION - The Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce hosted a reception for state and local elected officials and the public on Tuesday afternoon at The Studio in downtown Walnut Ridge. Hoxie citizens cry out against
proposed pit bull ban

Over a dozen Hoxie citizens attended the June 9 city council meeting to speak out against a breed-specific dog ban. During the May meeting, aldermen authorized a draft of a new city animal ordinance, which will include a section on vicious dogs with a possible ban on pit bull terriers and related breeds.

While those who spoke out said they had no issues with a vicious dog ordinance, they did make cases for why a breed specific ban was unjust.

WR City Council hears report on armory

SFC Richard Davidson spoke at the Walnut Ridge City Council meeting Monday night about the efforts to keep the Robert Armory active. After being informed of possible consolidation with the Newport center, residents and politicians were able to keep the local armory in service through phone calls and letters.

Hoxie train crash leads to
safety recommendations

A letter to the Federal Rail Administration regarding urgent safety recommendations based on findings from the August 2014 train derailment in Hoxie has been released.

difference in downtown WR

Mary Jane Callahan of Walnut Ridge loves plants and loves her community - those two loves have combined into a movement to make the downtown Walnut Ridge area more inviting to summer travelers.
