This power pole on Midway Road was one of many damaged in Sunday night's storm. Over 2,700 homes were without power after the local Entergy plant substation lost its feed of electricity. Power was restored to most customers within a few hours.

Strong winds cause damage, mass outage

A severe storm with high-speed winds tore through parts of Lawrence County Sunday evening, downing several trees and causing structural damage and wide-spread power outages.

WR Animal Shelter has
potential to serve county

The Walnut Ridge City Council approved the purchase of the former Gateway Animal Clinic at its May meeting.

The building will be used initially as an animal control holding facility for Walnut Ridge, but Mayor Charles Snapp said it has the potential to be much more than that.

Pinkston named secondary
counselor of the year

Hoxie High School Counselor Donna Pinkston was recently named secondary counselor of the year by the Arkansas School Counselor Association.
