Cambry Jane Cissell

Brandon and Jessica Cissell of Paragould have announced the birth of their first child, a daughter, born May 13, 2015, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital.

The baby weighed six pounds, 13 ounces, and has been named Cambry Jane Cissell.

Grandparents are Mark and Coressa Fry of Hoxie, Michael and Sandra Bryant and James Cissell, all of Pocahontas.

Great-grandparents are Gene and Viola Cook and Wilma Fry, all of Pocahontas.

Freer ~ Clark

Treka Danielle Freer and Ethan Brant Clark will exchange wedding vows at 7 p.m. June 6 at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Bruce Taylor, 4203 Peachtree Avenue, Jonesboro, Arkansas.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Freer of Paragould and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Danny Freer of Walnut Ridge and Mrs. Billie Jones of Paragould.

She is a 2009 graduate of Crowley's Ridge Academy and a 2013 graduate of Crowley's Ridge College. She is pursuing a Masters of Public Administration from Arkansas State University and is employed at MF Block Insurance in Paragould.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Randy Clark of Beech Grove and the grandson of Mrs. Annette Clark of Beech Grove.

He is a 2009 graduate of Crowley's Ridge Academy and a 2014 graduate of Arkansas State University. He is employed as a civil engineer with the Arkansas Highway Department in North Little Rock.

Following a honeymoon in St. Thomas, the bride and groom will reside in North Little Rock. All friends and family are invited to the wedding and the dessert reception to follow.

Jamie Lynn Ashford

Jamie Lynn Ashford, 23, of Ravenden, died April 21, 2015, at her home.

Born Sept. 17, 1991, in Jonesboro, she was the daughter of Larry Bruce Ashford and Lisa Valene Branscum.

She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Eldon Branscum and Larry Ashford; and an aunt, Viola Collins.

Survivors include her mother, Lisa Patterson, Ravenden Springs; her father, Larry Ashford, Pascagoula, Miss.; four sisters, Nikki Ashford, Ravenden, Magen Patterson, Ravenden Springs, Monica Ashford, Walnut Ridge, and Melody Ashford, Pascagoula, Miss.; two brothers, Dustin Ashford, Texas, and Ross Ashford, Walnut Ridge; and her grandmothers, Oneta Branscum, Ravenden Springs, and Sharon Pillow and husband Kenny, Bono.

Graveside service is Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Thompson Cemetery near Pocahontas. Bryan Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Cecil L. Benton

Cecil L. Benton, 88, of Jacksonville, passed away May 17, 2015, at his home.

Born Nov. 9, 1926, he was the son of William Henry and Lennie Myrtle Staples Benton. He served in the Merchant Marines, the U.S. Army and the Air Force. He was a farmer and a member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church in Jacksonville.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Gross; his parents; five brothers and five sisters.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, LaVerne Vaughn Benton; a daughter, Cecilia Benton, Nashville, Tenn.; a sister, Tommie Ross, Columbia, Mo.; and a granddaughter, Lauren May.

Funeral is Friday at 11 a.m. at Cherokee Village Baptist Church with Larry White officiating. Burial will be in Saddle Cemetery near Ash Flat under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.

Visitation is Friday from 10 a.m. until time of the service.

Charles M. Burgess

Charles M. Burgess, 90, of Walnut Ridge, died May 17, 2015, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.

Born Sept. 23, 1924, in Pocahontas, he was the son of Noah and Thine Burgess.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma Ilene Burgess; and three sisters, Sue Bofing, Omega Leslie and Ivy Higginbotham.

Survivors include a daughter, Peggy Joan Allen and husband Luther; two sons, Gary Burgess and wife Leta, and Dennis Burgess and wife Becci; two brothers, Ray Burgess and wife Dorothy, and Tom Burgess and wife Shirley; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Funeral was Tuesday at 2 p.m. at McNabb Funeral Home with Derek Collins officiating. Burial was in Randolph Memorial Gardens.

D.B. Chastain

D.B. Chastain, 86, of Piggott, died May 16, 2015, at his home.

Born May 27, 1928, in Alicia, he was the son of James Chastain and Pearl Blaylock Chastain George. He served in the U.S. Army for 16 years. He was a sergeant and a rifleman in Berlin, Germany. He was a member of Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Piggott.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Chastain Dement; a sister, Velma Boyd; four brothers, Sam George Jr., Frank Chastain, Maxie Chastain and Edward Chastain; and two grandchildren, Sarah Hayden and Marty Hurst.

Survivors include his wife, Exie Chastain; seven children, Carolyn Allen and husband Bob, Hardy, Brenda Moore, Jonesboro, Dletta Doyle and husband Bill, Sedgwick, Cathy Ribbing and husband Mike, Piggott, Rick Hayden, New Orleans, John Hayden and wife Sandy, Campbell, Mo., and Judy Baros and husband Mike, Colorado; 16 grandchildren, Gerald Hurst, Denise Chadwick, Shelley Hurst, Michael Myatt, Andrew Myatt, Randy Moore, Sammy Moore, Lorrie Rose, Marsha Jones, Jason Ribbing, Travis Hayden, Dustin Hayden, Michael Baros, Jarrod Baros, Thomas Hayden and Heather Hayden; 21 great-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral is today at noon at Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Piggott with Robert Gunnels officiating. Burial will be in Strangers Home Cemetery at Alicia under the direction of Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation is today from 10 a.m. until time of the service.

Marjorie Miriam Elliott

Marjorie Miriam "Sis" Elliott, 90, of Bakersfield, Calif., died April 30, 2015.

Born Oct. 8, 1924, in Powhatan, she was the daughter of Robert and Ida Belle Flippo. As a schoolgirl, she participated in 4-H activities and various sports, including basketball. As a young woman, she worked for many years as a waitress. She and her first husband, Monroe Jones, moved to Bakersfield in 1946. She and her second husband, Bill Elliott, were the co-owners of BE & ME Trucking Company. She was an auxilian at Mercy Hospital and a member of Christ Church of the Valley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Elliott; a son, Lantie Jones; two stepsons, Steve Elliott and Jeff Elliott; and two brothers, Billy Flippo and Bobby Flippo.

Survivors include two daughters, Leanne Ostrovski Davis and husband Phil, and Linda Delcid and husband Tim; two stepdaughters, Sue Lloyd and Janis Craft and husband Rusty; six grandchildren, Brian Ostrovski, Amy Bogan, Nicole Strategos, Shawn Jones, Timothy Delcid, Josh Delcid; six step-grandchildren, Karen, Scott, Traci, Terri, Stephanie and Jeffrey; several great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

A memorial service was held Friday, May 8, at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Bakersfield, Calif.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association or Hoffman Hospice.

Doris Edith Knupp

Doris Edith Knupp, 94, of Pocahontas, died May 9, 2015, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro.

Born Feb. 5, 1921, in Christopher, Ill., she was the daughter of Elmer Isaac and Bertha Agnes Flowers Richardson. She was a retired sales clerk for Farm Service. She was a member of the Westside Church of Christ and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hiram Russell Knupp; three sons, Patrick Keith Knupp, Jerry Lee Knupp and David Ray Knupp; a sister, Edna Price; and two brothers.

Survivors include two grandsons, Wade Knupp, Bakersfield, Calif., and Jeff Knupp, McKinleyville, Calif.; and a sister, Wilma Moscato, Orland Park, Ill.

Graveside service was at Mounds City National Cemetery in Mounds, Ill.

Memorials may be made to the Westside Church of Christ.

James Eugene Mann

James Eugene Mann, 80, of Saffell, died May 13, 2015, in Jonesboro.

Born Aug. 3, 1934, he was the son of Leander and Rosie Bell Birmingham Mann and a lifelong resident of Lawrence County. He was a mechanic and a member of Mt. Harmony Free Will Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Mann; two sons, David Mann and wife Kathy, and Mark Mann and wife Joyce; 14 grandchildren, Shaun Milde, Brent Milde, Caleb Jones, William Mann, Kramer Jones, Jacob Huskey, Josh Walker, Jessica King, Emily Smith, Crystal Mann, Jennifer Mann, Tranita Pritchett, Tanesha Baker and Tera Morgan; 18 great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Kerry Jones; and a daughter-in-law, Vicki Mann.

Funeral was Monday at 10 a.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home in Lynn with Bros. R.J. Akers and Stanley Vandergrift officiating. Burial was in Lancaster Cemetery.

Kathy Robershaw

Kathy Robershaw, 48, of Hoxie, died May 16, 2015, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro.

Born Aug. 13, 1966, in Fayetteville, she was of the Pentecostal belief.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Betty Jean Dobbs; and two brothers, Michael E. Dobbs and Thomas Dobbs.

Survivors include her husband, Joe Robershaw, whom she married May 13, 1985; a son, Wilbur Jay Robershaw, Walnut Ridge; a daughter, Catrina Jean Robershaw, Black Rock; five brothers, David A. Dobbs, Fayetteville, Barney D. Dobbs, Arkansas, David Wilbur Dobbs, Helena, Ala., Gerold Dobbs, Muskogee, Okla., and Adam Dobbs, Phoenix; and two grandchildren.

Atlas Abraham Mule Devoe "Bo" Smith, 39, of Ravenden, died April 21, 2015, at his home.

Born May 25, 1975, in Pocahontas, he was a deckhand.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jollie "Rockie" Smith III. Survivors include his mother, Judy Ballard, Pocahontas; a sister, Roxanne Lawrence, Pocahontas; two brothers, Jollie "Rockie" Smith IV, Imboden, and Roscoe Smith, Pocahontas; two stepdaughters, Anna Marie Henderson, Pocahontas, and Michelle Jean Arches, Corning.

Ember Christine Strickland

Ember Christine Strickland, 8, of Lynn, died May 11, 2015, at her home.

Born Jan. 17, 2007, in Jonesboro, she was the daughter of Catherine "Katy" Strickland and Joshua Levergne. She was a student at Hillcrest Elementary School and was of the Baptist belief.

She was preceded in death by an aunt, Autumn Morgan.

Survivors include her mother, Katy Strickland, Lynn; her father, Joshua Levergne, Paragould; three brothers, Blaze Sheffield, Cole Strickland and Davian Strickland, all of Lynn; her grandparents, Pam Ray, State Line, Miss., Kenneth Hayes Jr. Middletown, N.Y., Kreg and Brenda Levergne, Paragould, Zoia Oliver, Crowley, La., and Thomas Hufstedler, Lynn; great-grandparents, Kenneth Hayes Sr., Middletown, N.Y., and Anna Anderson, California; two uncles, Cory Strickland and wife Nikki, York, Ala., and Matthew Levergne, Crowley, La.; and six aunts, Ashley Hayes, Felicia Hayes, Katrina Hayes and Shyla Hayes, all of Middletown, N.Y., Amanda Tilley, Jonesboro, and Summer Levergne, Crowley, La.

Funeral was Sunday at 3 p.m. at Bryan Funeral Home with Josh Dement officiating. Burial was in Old Jackson Road Cemetery near Imboden.

Joyce Hope Thatcher

Joyce Hope Thatcher, 67, of Alicia, died May 17, 2015, at Baptist Health Medical Center in North Little Rock.

Born Dec. 9, 1947, in Alicia, she was a teacher's aide and cook for Walnut Ridge School and a homemaker. She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by a son, Robin David Thatcher; her parents, Otis and Erma Spires Rogers; and eight brothers.

Survivors include her husband, David Thatcher; two daughters, Cheryl (Ted) Dail, Black Rock, and Chera Jo (Kenneth Tribble) Thatcher, Alicia; a son, Richy (Sherri) Thatcher, Walnut Ridge; two brothers, Lilburn Rogers, Hoxie, and Larry Rogers, Jonesboro; two sisters, Murriel Smick, Alicia, and Jane Todd, Jonesboro; seven grandchildren, Colt, Dylan, Kyle, Savannah, Nicholas, Makayla and Candace; three great-grandchildren, Drake, Cash and Solee; a grand puppy, Sydney; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral is Thursday at 10 a.m. at Bryan Funeral Home with Bro. Frank Casillas officiating. Burial will be in Strangers Home Cemetery at Alicia.

Pallbearers will be grandsons: Colt, Kyle, Nicholas, Chris, Dylan and Evan. Honorary pallbearers will include Sammy Smothers, Daniel Bridges, Joey York, Chris Steele, Darrell McQuay, David Gates and Jack Dail.
