MANY ATTEND FISHING DERBY - Cyanna Martinez of Walnut Ridge holds her fishing pole tight as she participates in the 2015 Youth Fishing Derby Saturday at Stewart Park. The derby had 76 youth sign up to fish and a total weigh in of 174 pounds, four ounces.

During Monday's meeting, the Walnut Ridge City Council moved closer to passing an ordinance on house-size restrictions, approved the purchase of the former Gateway Animal Clinic and authorized legal action in the annexation of the 20 acres of Walnut Ridge property from the College City city limits.

Hoxie moving forward with
new animal control ordinance

After discussion and citizen input, the Hoxie City Council authorized Mayor Lanny Tinker to write a draft for a new animal control ordinance that would ban specific dog breeds.

New Black River Bridge now open

The new Black River Bridge at Black Rock opened for traffic Friday morning. County Judge Dale Freeman, Black Rock Mayor Bonnie Ragsdale and Walnut Ridge Mayor Charles Snapp led the ceremonial first crossing of the bridge.
