Lady Cats defeat S-H
Walnut Ridge's Lady Bobcats defeated Sloan-Hendrix 13-1 in 2A-2 Conference softball action on Thursday at Imboden.
The Lady Cats took control of the game early, with two runs in the first inning, six in the second and four runs in the third inning for a 12-0 lead. Each team added a run in the fifth inning to set the final score.
Baylee Burris led Walnut Ridge's offense, going 3-for-4 at the plate, with five RBIs and scoring three runs. Megan Jared went 3-for-3, and Hannah Doane finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Alyssa Jones had two hits, including a double, and Maggie Jackson had an RBI.
Baylee Haskins tossed a five-inning one-hitter, with six strikeouts.
The Pangburn Lady Tigers broke open a close game with six runs in the sixth inning and went on to defeat Walnut Ridge 14-8 in a conference matchup on April 22 at Walnut Ridge.
The game was tied 5-5 after four innings when Pangburn came up with two runs in the fifth inning to take a 7-5 lead. Their huge sixth inning stretched the advantage to 13-5. They added a single run in the seventh. Walnut Ridge battled back in the bottom of the seventh, but could only manage three runs to set the final score.
Whitney Rider had three RBIs for Walnut Ridge. Haskins pitched a complete game and finished with two strikeouts.
A seventh-inning rally came up one run short, as Walnut Ridge fell to Tuckerman 7-6 in 2A-2 softball action on April 21 at Tuckerman.
Tuckerman grabbed a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but the Lady Cats fought back to tie the contest with a run in the second and two runs in the top of the third inning. The Lady Bulldogs answered with three runs in the bottom of the third to regain the lead at 6-3. After scoreless fourth and fifth innings, each team tallied one run in the sixth inning to move to the final frame with Tuckerman holding a 7-4 advantage. Walnut Ridge scored twice in their final at-bat to close to within 7-6, but couldn't push the tying run across the plate.
Rider led Walnut Ridge with three hits, and Burris added a pair of hits. Jackson had two RBIs.
Haskins pitched six innings and recorded four strikeouts.
