Hillcrest defeats Mammoth
The Hillcres Screamin' Eagles defeated Mammoth Spring 4-1 in a 1A-2 North baseball game on Friday at Strawberry.
Hillcrest scored a run in the bottom of the first inning for an early 1-0 lead. Mammoth Spring tied the game 1-1 with a run in top of the fourth inning, but the Eagles plated a run in bottom of the inning on an RBI single by Tyson Durham to regain the advantage at 2-1.
Hillcrest added two runs in the sixth inning when Ethan Ballard scored on a hit by Dyllan Nunnally. Nathan Pankey followed with a single, scoring Nunnally.
Cameron Durham earned the pitching victory for the Eagles. He surrendered just two hits while striking out seven batters.
The Viola Longhorns scored in the bottom of the seventh inning to edge the Screamin' Eagles 2-4 in a conference showdown on Thursday at Viola.
Viola scored a run in the first inning, and Hillcrest evened the game with a run in the second to knot the score 1-1. The Longhorns scored in the third inning to take a 2-1 lead, but the Eagles came up with two runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 3-2 lead. Viola answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to retake the lead at 4-3. Hillcrest tied the game with a run in the sixth inning before the Longhorns scored in their final at-bat to take the win.
Brad Nunnally and Pankey each had two hits for Hillcrest, while Ballard finished with an RBI.
