Bobcats record victories
Walnut Ridge's Layne Ditto tossed a one-hitter while ringing up 13 strikeouts as the Bobcats defeated Harrisburg 3-0 at the Xtra Innings Baseball Classic on Saturday.
Walnut Ridge scored two runs in the first inning and one in the third inning.
Luke Wall had two hits, while Cash Lee, Will Weir, Lane Kennedy and Drake Smelser each had one hit. Kennedy and Chase Baker each finished with an RBI.
The Bobcats scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to edge Pocahontas 6-5 on Friday.
Walnut Ridge trailed 2-0 before scoring five runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 5-2 lead. Pocahontas tied the game with three runs in the fifth inning.
Ditto led Walnut Ridge at the plate with two hits. Lee, Kennedy and Smelser each had a hit. Kennedy drove in two runs, and Baker had an RBI.
Weir earned the complete-game win on the mound. He allowed two earned runs on nine hits and finished with four strikeouts.
The Bobcats pounded out 16 hits in a 16-1 rout of Salem in 2A-2 Conference action on March 25 at Walnut Ridge.
Ditto turned in an impressive performance, both at the plate and on the mound. Offensively, he went 3-for-4 with six RBIs, including a grand slam. He also pitched five innings, allowing one run on six hits.
Also for Walnut Ridge, Luke Wall was 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs, and Kennedy finished with two hits, two RBIs and scored three runs.
The Bobcats improved to 4-0 in conference play.
Walnut Ridge traveled to Tuckerman on March 24 and picked up a 7-1 conference win over the Bulldogs.
Wall pitched a seven-inning complete game, allowing one run on just two hits, with two strikeouts.
Lee and Weir each had two hits, while Wall added a hit and two RBIs. White Co. Central
Ditto fanned 18 batters in a complete-game outing as Walnut Ridge defeated White County Central 4-2 on March 23.
Lee, Weir and Kennedy each had two hits, while Ditto added a two-run double for the Bobcats.
