Seth Michael Gifford

Michael and Sarah Gifford of Walnut Ridge have announced the birth of their first child, a son, born on March 23, 2015, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro.

The baby weighed seven pounds, eight ounces, and has been named Seth Michael Gifford.

Grandparents are Don and Brenda Alls and Tammie Gifford, all of Walnut Ridge, and Mike and Angela Gifford of Marshall.

Great-grandparents are Wilson and Mazie Alls and Polly Gray, all of Walnut Ridge, and Pat Gifford of Paragould.

Noah Austin Hood

Nick and Megan Hood of Walnut Ridge have announced the birth of a son, born March 23, 2015, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro.

The baby weighed 10 pounds, eight ounces, and has been named Noah Austin Hood. He has two older sisters, Katelyn, five, and Chloe, three.

Grandparents are Anita Steen of Tyronza and Richard and Connie Cummins of Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Great-grandparents are Virginia Steen of Tyronza, Denver Forbis and Richard and June Cummins, all of West Memphis.

Jacob Tyler Smith

Tyler and Amanda Smith of Springdale have announced the birth of a son, born March 27, 2015.

The baby weighed eight pounds and has been named Jacob Tyler Smith. He has two older brothers, Benjamin, five, and Nathan, three.

Grandparents are Perry and Rebecca Webb and Doug and Diana Smith, all of Springdale.

Great-grandparents are Bob and Mary Ann Jackson of Walnut Ridge and Doris Boyles of Mt. Ida.

Waddell ~ Jones

Ashley Jones became the bride of Cody Waddell on March 24, 2015.

Parents of the couple are Tim Waddell of Walnut Ridge and Jeannie Price, Tennessee Jones and Karen Nipper, all of Pocahontas.

They have a six-month-old daughter, Emma Leigh Mae Waddell.

The couple exchanged vows at their home in Pocahontas with John P. Jones officiating.

Obituaries

Anthony Gerald Faulkner

Coach Anthony Gerald Faulkner, 53, died Sunday, March 29, in his home in Paragould. He was surrounded by his family.

He was a coach and teacher at Paragould Junior High School. He also coached American Legion baseball for the community. Coach Faulkner was a graduate of Stanford High School and Arkansas State University.

Coach Faulkner was preceded in death by his mother, Fay Faulkner; and nephew, Darin Russell, both of Paragould.

He is survived by his wife, Dana, of the home; children, Hunter and Jordan Faulkner; parents, Larry and Linda Faulkner; mother-in-law, Martha Cavitt; sister, Tina Russell; brother and sister-in-law, Chris and Kathy Faulkner; nieces, Mallory (Chase) Causey and Zoe Russell; nephews, Gunner, Hayden, and Cade Faulkner; granddog, Henry; honorary daughter, Brook Zepecki; and honorary grandson, Jace Lane, all from Paragould.

Coach Faulkner was married to his best friend for 29 years, was a model father to his two children, and a father figure to countless others. Coach Faulkner was the number one St. Louis Cardinal’s fan and loyal Arkansas Razorback fan. He loved playing, coaching, and watching baseball. He valued teaching integrity over winning as a coach, and it showed, as his players moved on in life.

He was an avid hunter and collector of Ducks Unlimited memorabilia. He was passionate about working with his students and players, and he touched the lives of everyone he met. He loved to tell stories and share memories. Coach Faulkner loved jokes and pranks and was always making everyone laugh.

Coach Faulkner’s visitation will be at Heath Funeral Home on Friday from 6-8 p.m. His celebration service will be Saturday at the Paragould High School auditorium at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens in Paragould.

Luther Fowler

Luther Fowler, 99, died March 29, 2015, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Born July 4, 1915, in Alicia, he was the son of John and Beulah Bullner Fowler. He was a lifelong resident of Lawrence County and a member of Main Street Church of Christ in Walnut Ridge.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Hackney Fowler; three brothers; three sisters; and a great-granddaughter.

Survivors include a daughter, Pat Dixon, Walnut Ridge; three grandchildren, Rob Combs, Richard Combs and Nancy Hall; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on July 4, his 100th birthday.

Memorials may be made to the Main Street Church of Christ youth program.

Ronda Sain

Ronda Florence Sain, 58, of Little Rock, died March 17, 2015, at her home.

Born April 24, 1956, in Paragould, she grew up in Walnut Ridge and graduated from WRHS in 1974. She was a teacher and a member of Walnut Ridge First United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Franklin and Doris McBride Sain; and a brother, John Sain.

Survivors include two sons, Robby Jones and Wesley Jones, both of Little Rock; a brother, Randy Sain, Walnut Ridge; a sister, Sharyl Sain, Phoenix; and four granddaughters.

A family-conducted memorial service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Walnut Ridge First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Havana Cemetery at Havana, Ark., on Sunday at 2 p.m. Cornwell Funeral Home of Dardanelle has charge of arrangements.

Bonnie Jean Stephens

Bonnie Jean Stephens, 79, died March 27, 2015, at Lawrence Hall Nursing Center.

Born March 6, 1936, in Ravenden, she was the daughter of Eugene "Bug" and Mable Starling Stratton. She was a longtime resident of Lawrence County and a homemaker. She was a member of Main Street Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Wanda Hufstedler, Patsy Byrd and Helen Safrit.

Survivors include her husband, Oliver C. Stephens; three daughters, Nicki Black, Fredrick, Md., Pamela Lester, Pocahontas, and Stephanie Rose, Black Rock; a son, Oliver "Chuck" Stephens, Pocahontas; three sisters, Anna Verkler, Cherokee Village, Rita Emerson, Jonesboro, and Sherry Witt, Huntsville, Ala.; two brothers, Ellis Stratton, Paragould, and Dale Stratton, Walnut Ridge; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Raymond Charles Watson

Raymond Charles Watson, 72, of Mammoth Spring and Black Rock, passed away March 24, 2015, at Ash Flat Nursing Center.

Born Dec. 6, 1942, in Craig, Colo., he moved to Black Rock in 1951, and was a 1961 graduate of Black Rock High School. He was a cattle and hog farmer, as well as a heavy equipment operator.

He was preceded in death by two sons, James Anthony "Tony" Watson and Charles Mark Watson; his parents, Richard and Martha Noyes Watson; and a sister, Kathleen Farmer.

Survivors include a son, Terry Watson, Highland; two brothers, Richard Watson, Raymond, Ill., and Terry Watson, Black Rock; three sisters, Doreen Reynolds, Rowlett, Texas, and Lois Watson and Kay Smith, both of Black Rock; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A celebration of his life will be held at graveside at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, in Riverside Cemetery at Mammoth Spring. Tri-County Funeral Home of Ash Flat has charge of arrangements.
