Amtrak training held
for local responders

Amtrak, in conjunction with Lawrence County Office of Emergency Management, offered a specialized training for area emergency response agencies Monday.

The training provided ways to prepare for an Amtrak derailment and how to safely handle rescue and recovery operations.

Ditto steps down
as WR street supt.

For Walnut Ridge Street Superintendent Rick Ditto, it was not an easy decision to turn in his resignation last week. However, due to some health concerns and lower energy levels, he decided stepping down was the best thing for him and the city.

Rick Crawford, U.S. representative for Arkansas's first congressional district, was the special speaker at Tuesday's Rotary Club of Lawrence County meeting.

Recycling bins accept
a variety of materials

In efforts to reinvigorate the recycling program in the area, John Householder, chair of the Walnut Ridge Recycling Committee, and Hoxie Mayor Lanny Tinker have both taken time to promote the recycling bins located in both communities.
