Three Lawrence County high school basketball teams advanced to their respective regional tournaments last week.
The Sloan-Hendrix girls and Walnut Ridge boys both lost in first-round action in the 2A North Regional at Monette.
The Lady Greyhounds led Marked Tree 22-17 at halftime, but couldn’t hold the lead in the second half, falling to the Lady Indians 42-38.
Alyssa Nichols led Sloan-Hendrix with 15 points, while Brenda McCain added 14.
In boys action, Xzavier Reed scored 33 points to lead the East Poinsett County Warriors to a 72-63 win over Walnut Ridge.
Spencer Wilson and Martin Crisler each scored 15 points for the Bobcats, while Kenzie Flippo finished with 14 points.
The Hoxie Lady Mustangs lost to Mountain View 73-59 in the first round of the 3A Region 3 tournament at Manila.
Hoxie started strong, leading 17-14 at the end of the first quarter. Mountain View came back in the second period to take a 34-28 lead at halftime and stretched the lead to 56-38 after three quarters. The Lady Yellowjackets held off Hoxie in the final period to earn the victory.
Krista Vankirk led the Lady Mustangs with 17 points. Devyn Pollard scored 12 points, and Bekah Kopp contributed 10.
