LawCo. raises 12K
Lawrence County volunteers were able to raise $12,200 for this year's Have-A-Heart Wish-A-Thon to benefit Make-A-Wish. The total raised in the region during the 13-hour fundraiser on Feb. 13 was $339,410. All money will help to grant the wishes of children in Northeast Arkansas and Southeast Missouri.
The amount raised by the county will be enough to grant two wishes, according to bucket brigade organizer Felipe Baiza. Bucket brigades were stationed at Walnut Ridge and Hoxie to collect donations from passers-by.
Baiza extended his gratitude to local businesses that donated food and drinks, both Hoxie and Walnut Ridge schools for selling stars during this drive and to all the ones who have been a part of the fundraiser for the past few years.
"There's a dedicated few who made it their mission to be out there for such a worthy cause," he said.
"Who would have thought that we as a county would be able to do so much for kids wanting to go somewhere or be someone special. Thank you Lawrence County for making their wishes come true."
