S-H falls to Tuckerman
The Sloan-Hendrix Greyhounds went on the road to face 2A-2 Conference foe Tuckerman on Jan. 20. The Bulldogs took three contests from their visitors, winning both senior high games and a junior boys game.
The senior boys contest was close from the outset, with Tuckerman leading 19-18 after one quarter, 32-31 at halftime and 38-36 at the end of the third quarter. A free-throw by Jamison Fortenberry gave the Bulldogs a 57-56 lead with 5.7 seconds to play. Sloan-Hendrix missed a three-pointer as time expired.
Matthew Wilkins led Sloan-Hendrix in scoring with 18 points, while Kyle Murphy chipped in 16 and took a charge. Tyler Murphy had seven rebounds, five assists and five deflections. Colby Johnson had three steals, and Nathan DeShazo took a charge.
The loss left Sloan-Hendrix at 5-5 in conference play and 13-9 overall.
Tuckerman's junior boys defeated Sloan-Hendrix 53-26.
Brantly Gholson had three assists and four deflections for Sloan-Hendrix. The junior Hounds fell to 3-2 in the conference and 12-11 overall.
The Tuckerman senior girls remained undefeated in conference play with a 64-49 win over the Lady Greyhounds.
Alyssa Nichols scored 19 points, and Bailey Bradley added 10 points for Sloan-Hendrix.
Sloan-Hendrix's junior high and seventh-grade boys traveled to Lynn to face Hillcrest on Jan. 19.
Tyson Durham poured in 28 points to lead Hillcrest's junior boys over Sloan-Hendrix 59-55.
Hillcrest led 33-20 at halftime and 49-35 after three quarters and held off a fourth-quarter charge by the Greyhounds to hang on for the win.
Josh Bass added 13 points, and Shelby Workman chipped in 10 points for Hillcrest.
For Sloan-Hendrix, Hunter Stallings had 10 rebounds, 11 deflections and three steals. Shayne Dill had five rebounds and three steals. Mike Gornowicz finished with four rebounds and four deflections, and Braden Brand took a charge.
Hillcrest's seventh-grade boys defeated Sloan-Hendrix 19-16.
