BARGE USED IN BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION ~ The Rasmussen Group with Jensen Construction Company has brought in a barge to use in the Black River as construction nears completion on the new Black River Bridge at Black Rock. The barge is used with one of the cranes to reach parts of the bridge not accessible by land. Randy Ennis, project superintendent, is planning to have cars on the new bridge as early as April 2, weather permitting.

In its first official meeting of the year, the Northeast Arkansas Regional Intermodal Facilities Authority's Jan. 22 session in the Randolph County Chamber Board Room centered on the successes of the previous year and a brighter future for the regional area.

Heading into its sixth year, the Intermodal Authority members were updated on the progress of Peco Foods, which is expected to bring over 1,100 jobs to the area, along with the potential for additional new businesses and expansion of existing businesses.

improve economy

County Judge Dale Freeman is looking to bring several new industries into Lawrence County in his current term.

Harthorn spends semester in India

Edward Harthorn of Walnut Ridge recently returned from a semester studying in India. The trip, through Williams Baptist College's study abroad program, allowed him many opportunities and gave him a chance to experience the culture over an extended time.
