WR wins close game over S-H
Spencer Wilson's three-point play with 1.3 seconds remaining gave the Walnut Ridge Bobcats a 50-49 win over the Sloan-Hendrix Greyhounds in senior boys 2A-2 basketball action Friday night at Imboden.
Walnut Ridge led 15-11 at the end of the first quarter, but the Greyhounds moved in front in the second period to lead 24-20 at halftime and 38-36 after three quarters.
Sloan-Hendrix was leading 49-47 with nine seconds to play and a Greyhound player at the free throw line. The Hounds missed the front end of the one-and-one and Walnut Ridge's Martin Crisler grabbed the rebound and pushed the ball up the court. Crisler missed a jumper from 10 feet, but Wilson rebounded the miss and scored while drawing a foul. Wilson sank the free throw to put the Bobcats in the lead. Sloan-Hendrix was unable to get a shot off in the final 1.3 seconds.
Wilson and Kenzie Flippo each finished with 14 points, and Kyle Nunley added 10 points for Walnut Ridge.
Matt Wilkins led Sloan-Hendrix with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Tyler Murphy contributed 16 points and three deflections. Colby Johnson added 14 points and had four steals.
Sloan-Hendrix's Lady Greyhounds improved to 6-3 in 2A-2 Conference play with a 52-37 win over the Lady Bobcats.
The Lady Hounds dominated the first half taking a commanding 28-10 lead into the locker room at halftime. Sloan-Hendrix maintained the 18-point advantage through three quarters, 42-24.
Alyssa Nichols led a balanced Greyhound offense with 15 points. Maegan Brown chipped in 13 points, and Brittany Gosha finished with 11.
Walnut Ridge's Allyson McQuay led all scorers with 24 points.
Walnut Ridge won the junior girls game 38-28.
