Thatcher resigns

Interim WR chief named

Walnut Ridge Mayor Charles Snapp sent out notification to local media and state officials that Police Chief Richy Thatcher had turned in his resignation Tuesday morning.

"No specific reason was given for his resignation and none was needed," Snapp said at a formal announcement Tuesday afternoon. Snapp said everyone else with the department plans to stay.

Glendal Floyd, retired officer with 33 years in police experience, was named interim chief while the city searches for a permanent replacement. Floyd will not apply for the position, but will advise during the application process.

"I feel honored to be offered this position," Floyd said. "I look forward to working with the police department, and we're going to do a good job."

Floyd was sworn in Tuesday afternoon by District Judge Adam Weeks.

A police committee meeting was held following the swearing in to set some guidelines to assist in hiring a new chief. Applications with resumes will be accepted from qualified applicants at the Walnut Ridge City Hall.
