WR adds intern

Gretchen Hunt

The city of Walnut Ridge has announced a cooperative effort with Williams Baptist College, which has resulted in the creation of an industrial development intern position.

Jeff Morris of Bono, a senior business administration major at WBC, is filling the position, which is designed to assist in business and industrial recruitment.

"I'm excited to have WBC's assets at work for the city of Walnut Ridge to help develop the tools we need to attract industry and business," Mayor Charles Snapp said. "I am thrilled that Jeff Morris is going to be the intern. He brings a lot of excitement, talent and business knowledge to the table."

Morris said he is currently in the data collection phase of the project and welcomes input from anyone in the community. He is specifically seeking commercial property listings, statistics regarding economic factors and workforce, fast facts about the city, quality of life information, historical information and future developments that are in the planning stages, such as housing or businesses.

"Gathering content is a major part of this project," Morris said. "I would love to talk with anyone who has information, photos, graphics and such that could be beneficial."

Morris can be reached at 870-351-0787, and information can be sent to jmorris@cityofwalnutridge.com.

Snapp said Walnut Ridge is expanding its marketing direction to appeal to a wide range of job creation possibilities.

"We hope to incorporate the use of a drone to obtain quality photos of site locations and develop a full list of property and buildings available in the Walnut Ridge area to help promote Walnut Ridge as the county seat of Lawrence County."

As the program expands, Snapp said the goal is to include every town in Lawrence County.

"We want to include every town that is interested in working with us and plan to work with the county judge and quorum court in their marketing efforts, as well," he said. "While the project is being run through the Walnut Ridge Industrial Development Committee, we are looking toward a regional effort."

The committee is comprised of Alderman Allen Smith, Dr. Brett Cooper, representing the Walnut Ridge Airport Commission, and Fran Cavenaugh, representing the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce.
