WR prepares for snowy weather
Mayor Don House said an effort has been made throughout the year to better prepare the street department for future snowfall.
The city has purchase a government-owned dump truck, a near new spreader and a Humvee that the city has rigged with a snowplow that had been stored in a warehouse at the Walnut Ridge Regional Airport. This equipment along with the skid steer the city already owned will be used to clear well-traveled roads.
House said that the equipment purchased throughout the year has cost the city less than $5,000.
Hoxie faces hard decisions in 2015The Hoxie City Council discussed adjustments needed for the 2015 budget at a meeting on Thursday. The main focus of the discussion was on a proposal to shut down the city dispatch and have all 911 calls and radio traffic go through the Lawrence County 911 Communication Center.
Airport in danger of losing military contractThe Walnut Ridge Regional Airport is likely to lose its military contract after requirements on fuel sales were put in place.
Jones Farm named
The Charlie Jones Farm, located at Arbor Grove near Minturn, was recently recognized as one of Arkansas' Century Farms by the Arkansas Agriculture Department.
