ANGEL TREE SERVES OVER 150 FAMILIES ~ Deputy County Clerk Sarah Dobbs (left) and volunteer Kim Morris of Walnut Ridge sort gifts donated by Lawrence County residents for the Angel Tree project. County Clerk Tina Stowers said this year the county is serving 377 children from 158 families. The deadline to donate gifts has passed but Stowers said monetary donations are still being accepted to purchase the remaining gifts.

Walnut Ridge Council tables
dangerous animal ordinance

An ordinance on animal care, treatment and cruelty within the Walnut Ridge city limits was presented at the city council meeting on Dec. 9. The ordinance contains a new section prohibiting pit bulls.

WR visited by bus tour owners

Walnut Ridge was one of the featured stops on the FAM Tour sponsored by the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism. The tour consisted of delegates from different countries looking for stops to add to their own bus tour itineraries.

Intermodal reports on Peco research

Members of the Intermodal Authority heard from a group who visited two communities in Mississippi where Peco Foods have poultry operations in their board meeting on Dec. 11. Chairman Wayne Gearhart said he thought the trip to Canton and Bay Springs was very informative.

Jones Farm named
Arkansas Century Farm

The Charlie Jones Farm, located at Arbor Grove near Minturn, was recently recognized as one of Arkansas' Century Farms by the Arkansas Agriculture Department.
