Natalie Hurst and Jerred Dodson, both of Hoxie, have announced the birth of a son, born Nov. 9, 2014, at St. Bernards Birthcare Center.

The baby weighed six pounds, 14 ounces, and has been named Maxwell David Dodson.

Grandparents are Linda Hurst of Hoxie and Marsha Dodson of Mountain View.

Great-grandmother is Gladys Johnson of Mountain View.

Leeam James Smith

Megan Baltz and Austin Smith, both of Walnut Ridge, have announced the birth of a son, born Nov. 12, 2014, at St. Bernards Birthcare Center.

The baby weighed six pounds, 15 ounces and has been named Leeam James Smith.

Grandparents are Jennifer Lindsey of Pocahontas and Angie Augestine of Walnut Ridge.

Great-grandmother is Ann Stockwell of Pocahontas.

MaryAnne Ruger Grace Watkins

Eric and Desiray Watkins of Cash have announced the birth of a daughter, born Nov. 24, 2014, at St. Bernards Birthcare Center.

The baby weighed four pounds, five ounces, and has been named MaryAnne Ruger Grace Watkins. She has two siblings, Kaity, five, and Bella, three.

Grandparents are Morris and Lisa Watkins of Cash, Trish and Willie Davidson of Walnut Ridge and Cory and Melissa West of Bono.

Great-grandparents are Lester and Virginia Watkins of Cash, Jim Bourassa of Jonesboro, Rosemary Lowery of Walnut Ridge and Polly Stone of Bartlett, Tenn.

Great-great-grandmother is Marie Willbanks of Walnut Ridge.

Weddings/Engagements

Morris ~ Throesch

Kimberly Jo Morris, daughter of John Franks of Walnut Ridge and the late Mary Jo Franks, and Benjamin Robert Throesch, son of Rose Throesch of Engelberg and the late Victor Throesch, have announced their engagement and forthcoming marriage.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Diane Woodson of Hoxie and the late Jewel Woodson.

She is a 2014 graduate of Arkansas State University at Newport with a surgical technology certification and is employed at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center as a surgical technologist.

The prospective groom is the grandson of Robert and Treva Throesch of Engelberg and Frances Steimel of Pocahontas and the late Hubert Steimel.

He is a 2010 graduate of Arkansas State University and holds a bachelor's degree in ag business/business finance. He co-manages his family's farm.

The couple will exchange vows on Saturday, Dec. 13, at 6 p.m. at The James Ranch Event Center in Pocahontas.

A reception will immediately follow the ceremony. All family and friends are invited to attend.

Wright ~ Rice

Kevin and Beverly Wright of Hoxie have announced the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Bethany Denise Wright, to Nicholas Dalton Rice, son of Rick and Stacy Rice of Walnut Ridge.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of A.J. and Jean Stracener and J.L Wright, all of Hoxie, and the late Ann Wright.

She is a 2013 Hoxie High School honor graduate; she was also the senior class president and Miss HHS. She currently attends Arkansas State University and works as a barista at The Darkside Coffee House.

The prospective groom is the grandson of Doug and Shelby Wayland of Walnut Ridge.

He is a 2013 graduate of Walnut Ridge High School where he was named valedictorian. He attends ASU and is a commercial producer with Coker Insurance.

The semiformal, double-ring ceremony will be Jan. 3 at 3 p.m. at the Hoxie Church of Christ with a reception to follow at the Lawrence County Meeting Room.

All family and friends are invited.

Ronnie Joe Craig

Ronnie Joe Craig, 44, of Kyle, Texas, died Nov. 29, 2014, in Pocahontas.

Born Aug. 29, 1970, in Walnut Ridge, he was a trainer/instructor and a member of the Church of Christ in Walnut Ridge.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Vertis Craig Jr. and Hobert Smith; and a great-grandmother, Mable Stanley.

Survivors include his wife, Arleen Craig, of the home; two daughters, Vanessa Schoonover and husband Ronald Dean, San Antonio, and Veronica Duval and husband Kevin, Ontario, Canada; his parents, Ronald Gerald Craig and wife Vickie, Paragould, and Debbie Smith Beaver; two brothers, Kyle Craig and wife Felissa, Walnut Ridge, and Michael Beaver Jr. and wife Andrea, Pocahontas; a sister, Cortney Kuntze and husband Paul, Carterville, Ill.; grandmother, Elsie Craig Allmond, Paragould; and three grandchildren, Lilliam Schoonover, Olivia Duval and Matthew Duval.

Funeral was Tuesday at 2 p.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home with Rob Combs officiating. Burial was in Lawrence Memorial Park.

Pallbearers were Paul Kuntze, Brance Cagle, Ronald Dean Schoonover, Jody Sifford, Joey Burdin, Brad Murray, David Goings and Dallas Cagle. Honorary pallbearers were Kyle Craig and Michael Beaver Jr.

Sue Dry

Sue Dry, 74, of Portia, died Nov. 30, 2014, at her home.

Born Aug. 1, 1940, at Lauratown, she was a longtime resident of Lawrence County. She was a manager in the jewelry department at Walmart in Walnut Ridge. She also had a beauty operator's license. She was a former mayor of Portia and was a member of the Portia Assembly of God Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Dry, on April 4, 2001; and her parents, Burl and Bessie Erwin.

Survivors include a son, Eric Dry and wife Sonya, Walnut Ridge; two sisters, Wanda Dunlap and husband Sammy, Portia, and Kay Dulaney and husband Larry, Powhatan; and two grandchildren, Sydney Dry and David Dry.

Funeral is Friday at 10 a.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home with Steven Alexander officiating. Burial will be in Crossroads Cemetery at Portia.

Visitation is Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Joslyn Grace Gibson

Joslyn Grace Gibson, infant, of Walnut Ridge, died Nov. 26, 2014, at her home.

Born Sept. 2, 2014, at Newport, she was the daughter of Dustin Gibson and Arielle Chappel.

She was preceded in death by her great-grandfathers, Melvin Webster, Albert Blackwell, Earl Chappel and Clyde Gibson; and a great-grandmother, Pauline Chappel.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include two brothers, Elijah Gibson, Walnut Ridge, and Haden Taft, Paragould; her grandparents, Troy Chappel and wife Tammy, Walnut Ridge, Jerry Priddy and wife Denise, Pocahontas, and Junior Gibson, Walnut Ridge; and her great-grandmothers, Betty Blackwell, Drew, Miss., Martha Gibson, Walnut Ridge, and Carolyn Webster, Black Rock.

Funeral is today at 11 a.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home with Danny Gartman officiating.

Kathy Lane Nicholas

Kathy Lane Nicholas, 55, of Hoxie, died Nov. 2, 2014, at her home.

Born Dec. 19, 1958, in Jonesboro, she was a waitress.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie and Ida Mae Williams Woodard.

Survivors include a daughter, Terra Tyree and husband Brandon, Harrisburg; two sisters, Maryland Conley, Harrisburg, and Venecia Guntharp, Siloam Springs; a brother, Terry "Buddy" Woodard, Imboden; and three grandchildren, Jordan Smith, Madalyn Buchanan and Eli Buchanan.

A memorial service was held Saturday from 1-3 p.m. at Bryan Funeral Home.

Geraldine Stallcup

Geraldine Stallcup, 98, of Walnut Ridge, died Nov. 26, 2014, at Lawrence Hall Nursing Center.

Born May 5, 1916, in Campbell, Mo., she was the daughter of Dr. Marquis and Alpha Benson Cone. She was a schoolteacher for a few years. She and her husband, James, were the owners of Gregg Funeral Home in Walnut Ridge. She was a charter member of the Schubert Music Club. She was a member of United Methodist Church in Walnut Ridge, where she was active in the United Methodist Women's Class.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas Stallcup, on Feb. 17, 1984; and a brother, Dr. William Cone.

Survivors include a son, Jim Stallcup, J.D. and wife Lyn, Walnut Ridge; a grandson, Jim Bill Stallcup, M.D.; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside service was Friday at 2 p.m. at Jonesboro Memorial Gardens with Shawn McElhannon officiating.

Mary Lou Townsend

Mary Lou Land Townsend, 79, of Knobel, passed away Friday, Nov. 28, at home surrounded by family.

Born Nov. 26, 1935, in Portia, she was the daughter of Basil and Verniel Simpson Land. She was a homemaker and enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed crocheting and fishing.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Tommy Land; two sisters, Retha Vines and Pat Lindteigen; a grandson, Joey Ray Townsend Stormes; and a son-in-law, Ethan Harper.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Teddy Joe Townsend, whom she married March 23, 1957; four daughters, Linda Stormes and husband Bill, Knobel, Susan Harper, Sedgwick, Vickie Robinson and husband Terry, Corning, and Tammy Collins and husband Alan, Ravenden; a brother, Jerry Land and wife Dee, Troy, Mo.; two sisters, Babs King and husband Jerry, Jonesboro, and Laverne Gaines and husband Bill, Portia; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Monday at 2 p.m. at Ermert Funeral Home in Corning with Rev. Don Dingus officiating. Burial was in Corning Cemetery.

Marion Thomas Wigton

Marion Thomas "Wig" Wigton, 68, of Powhatan, died Nov. 27, 2014, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Born April 9, 1946, in Walnut Ridge, he retired from Craighead Electric Cooperation as a troubleshooter lineman. He was a member of Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church near Eaton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Quinton and Othell McCarrol Wigton; and an infant sister, Lula Belle Wigton.

Survivors include his wife, Teresa Poff Wigton, whom he married Nov. 8, 1986; two sons, Thomas Quinton Wigton and wife Nicole, Lynn, and Jacob Wigton, of the home; two daughters, Jodi Cain Coats, Lynn, and Lori Fox and husband Dave, Carterville, Ill.; a sister, Roseann Entwistle, Lockport, N.Y.; and six grandchildren, Hannah Coats, Katie Fox, Madison Fox, Quinnalyn Wigton, Hayden Coats and Thomas Cole Wigton.

Funeral was Monday at 11 a.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home with Don Winfrey and Geral Dean officiating. Burial with military honors was in Old Bethel Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Phillip Brown, Chris Cook, Craig Martin, Rosco Woods, Mike Hawkins and Donald Comb. Honorary pallbearers were Owen Sharp, Ronnie Glenn, Clifton Brown, Aubrey "Sarge" Copeland and Darrel Blalock.
