The Lawrence County Angel Tree will be set up in the lobby of the Lawrence County Courthouse for second-graders from Walnut Ridge and Hoxie to decorate at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 2.
Names can be taken from the tree from Dec. 3-12, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and all gifts must be returned by Dec. 15. The gifts will be distributed on Dec. 18.
The courthouse will be open for people to view the tree and select angels on Tuesday night, Dec. 2, before and after the Walnut Ridge Christmas parade.
County Clerk Tina Stowers, a member of the Angel Tree Committee, said in addition to taking angels from the tree there are other ways individuals can support the project.
“If a group would like to sponsor an entire family, they can come see me and we will get that arranged,” Stowers said. “In addition, monetary donations are welcome and can be made in my office or at First National Bank, where an Angel Tree account is set up.”
First National will also have a drop box for unwrapped toys at its Walnut Ridge location.
Applications for families who wish to be recipients of gifts from the Angel Tree are available in the County Clerk’s Office and the Lawrence County Housing Office. Individuals can also check with their school counselors. The deadline to apply is Dec. 9.
