Hoxie advances with

Hoxie's Gunner Cook ran for 284 yards and two touchdowns as the Mustangs stampeded past the Marianna Lee Trojans 49-6 in the first round of the 3A State Playoffs Friday night at Crider Field.
Hoxie opened the scoring on Cook's 35-yard run with 6:16 to play in the first quarter. Casey Middlecoff kicked the first of his seven extra points to give the Mustangs a 7-0 lead.
Marianna's Brandon Smith cut the lead to 7-6 on a 78-yard touchdown pass with 36 seconds remaining in the quarter.
Hoxie began to pull away with three touchdowns in the second period. Cole Sears hit James Johnson with a 31-yard pass to stretch the lead to 14-6 with 10:26 to play in the half.
Sears scored on a one-yard run later in the period to make the score 21-6. Sears added a two-yard touchdown with just five seconds left in the quarter to give Hoxie a 28-6 lead at halftime.
The Mustangs put the game away with a pair of quick scores midway through the third quarter. Cook scored his second touchdown on a 10-yard run, giving Hoxie a 35-6 lead. Following a Trojan turnover, Sears passed 31 yards to Austen Blocker for another score to extend the lead to 42-6.
Hoxie's final score came on a 34-yard run by Samuel Hatfield with 1:37 to play in the third quarter. Middlecoff's PAT set the final score.
Sears was 11/19 passing, for 183 yards and two touchdowns.
Cook finished with 284 yards and two touchdowns on 28 carries. Hatfield added 47 yards and a touchdown on five carries. Gunner Riggs had one carry for nine yards. Sears had three yards and two touchdowns on two carries.
Johnson led Hoxie's receivers with 78 yards and a touchdown on four receptions. Blocker caught three passes for 34 yards and a touchdown. Hunter Wilson had two catches for 40 yards. Dylan Littlejohn had two receptions for 31 yards.
Austin Williams led the Mustangs' defense with 10 tackles and an interception. Dylan Cheatham had eight tackles and an interception. Steven Arnold had five tackles and two sacks, and Christian Warnick also had five tackles. Seth Wagoner had four tackles and a sack. Hunter Wadkins, Chase Spradlin and Rylee Lewis each had three tackles. Hunter Wilson, Blake Mullen, Drake Ditto and Riggs each had two tackles, and Blocker had an interception.
Hoxie will travel to McGehee for a second-round game on Friday. The Owls defeated Rivercrest 64-27 in the first round.
