FIRST SNOW ~ A light snow fell Sunday night, dusting these fall decorations outside the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department and leaving one to two inches of snow in some areas across Lawrence County on Monday morning. This year's first snow fell nearly three weeks earlier than last year's first winter precipitation. Roadways were relatively safe to travel with some ice patches and slush reported. Schools remained open with Hillcrest School opening two hours late.

Runoff is Tuesday

Voters will go to the polls Tuesday to decide two runoff elections following the Nov. 4 General Election.

Hoxie to assess damaged sewer lines, Ditto resigns

At the Nov. 11 meeting, Hoxie aldermen voted to further inspect sewer laterals connected to four Hoxie properties to determine if they can be reconnected to the main line or need to be replaced. Also, Chris Ditto informed the council that he would be resigning as assistant fire chief.

Vicious dog ordinance to be drafted

The Walnut Ridge City Council has been discussing the need for a vicious dog ordinance for several months, and it was the main topic of conversation at November's meeting.
