WR falls to EPC, to face

A 30-point second quarter by East Poinsett County proved too much for the Walnut Ridge Bobcats to overcome in a 60-24 loss to the Warriors Thursday night at Sexton Field.
Walnut Ridge concluded the regular season with a 3-4 record in the 2A-3 Conference standings and will advance to the 2A State playoffs as the conference's fifth seed. The Bobcats will play at Junction City in a first-round game on Friday at 7 p.m.
The Bobcats got off to a promising start against EPC when Cash Lee scored on an 18-yard run with 8:27 to play in the opening quarter. Luke Harper ran for the two-point conversion to give Walnut Ridge an early 8-0 lead.
EPC responded on their ensuing possession when quarterback Aaron Scales scored on a one-yard keeper. Kyler Gordon added the two-point conversion to knot the game 8-8 with 4:14 remaining in the first quarter.
Walnut Ridge moved back in front when Lee scored on another 18-yard run with 11:02 to play in the second quarter. Michael Bounds' two-point conversion run gave the Bobcats a 16-8 lead.
Scales brought the Warriors to within 16-14 on a 10-yard run at the 9:14 mark, but Gordon was stopped on the two-point conversion attempt.
The Bobcats added to their lead when Will Weir threw a seven-yard touchdown pass to Darren Medlock with 6:27 to play in the quarter. Lee ran for the conversion to give Walnut Ridge a 24-14 lead.
EPC began its comeback on Scales' 45-yard pass to Clay Malone with 4:43 remaining in the half. Scales then passed to Chanc Gray for the conversion to cut Walnut Ridge's lead to 24-22.
The Warriors took the lead on Gordon's seven-yard run at the 2:50 mark. Malone's conversion gave EPC a 30-24 lead.
Gordon scored on an one-yard run in the closing seconds of the first half, and also ran for the conversion to give EPC a 38-24 lead at halftime.
The Warriors continued to pull away in the second half when Scales found Quinn Young for a pair of touchdowns in the third period. A 17-yarder at the 8:54 mark, followed by Gordon's conversion run, pushed the lead to 46-24. Scales then hit Young with a 19-yard score to extend EPC's lead to 52-24 with 1:29 remaining in the third period.
Trevor Walker scored the Warriors' final points on a one-yard run and the ensuing conversion with 4:41 to play in the game.
For Walnut Ridge, Weir completed 15 of 28 passes, for 82 yards and a touchdown.
Lee led the Bobcats in rushing with 50 yards and two touchdowns on six carries. Tyler Binkley added 25 yards on six carries. Harper finished with 12 yards on seven attempts, and Martin Crisler carried once for four yards.
Harper was the Bobcats' top receiver, with five receptions for 26 yards. Crisler finished with four catches for 17 yards. Kyle Nunley caught two passes for 14 yards, and Bounds had two receptions for nine yards. Chase Baker caught one pass for nine yards, and Medlock had a seven-yard touchdown reception.
Defensively for Walnut Ridge, Nunley had two interceptions and recorded five tackles, while Medlock had five tackles and one interception. Harper recorded seven tackles, and Crisler and Tyler Fry each had six tackles.
