Ellaina Nicole Watson

Lee Watson and Heather McQuay, both of Walnut Ridge, have announced the birth of a daughter, born Oct. 28, 2014, at Harris Hospital in Newport.

The baby weighed seven pounds, 10 ounces, and has been named Ellaina Nicole Watson. She has two siblings, Briton Ward, six, and Adalee Miranda Watson, 18 months.

Grandparents are Darrell and Melissa McQuay of Alicia, Joanie Baird of Arcadia, Mo., and the late Moss "MC" Watson.

Obituaries

Mary Elizabeth Austin

Mary Elizabeth Austin, 86, of Hoxie, died Oct. 29, 2014, at Lawrence Hall Nursing Center.

Born April 4, 1928, in Portia, she was the daughter of Lawrence Clay and Nettie Mae Wendell West. She was a retired schoolteacher who had received two master's degrees. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Walnut Ridge.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Frank Austin; a sister, Forrest Cole; and a brother, Floyd West.

Survivors include a daughter, Mona Turner and husband Larry, Jonesboro; a son, Joseph Allan Austin and wife Betty, Jonesboro; a brother, Herbert Eugene West, Maine; three grandchildren, Wendy Prater, Joe Austin and Chris Turner; and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside service was Thursday at 2 p.m. at Lawrence Memorial Park with pastor Stacy William Prater officiating. Faith Funeral Service of Manila had charge of arrangements.

Robert Lee Baltz

James Will Counts

James Will "J.W." Counts, Aviation Machinist Mate First Class, United States Navy, Retired, age 78, of Bonnerdale, met our Heavenly Father on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014.

Born on May 15, 1936, in Alicia , he was the son of James Luther and Lorine Counts. He retired from the United States Navy after 20 years of honorable service.

James was a devoted husband to Pearl (Fraze) Counts of Bonnerdale for 57 years; a loving father of James (Karen) Counts of Caddo Gap, Kathy Ives of Bakersfield, Calif., and Melissa (Alex) Kendall of Gulfport, Miss.; a devoted grandfather of Brandon Counts, Kara Jade (Justin) Baker, Samantha Ives, Ian Ives, Hailey Kendall and Hayden Kendall; an endearing great-grandfather to Matthew Ives-Hernandez and Ashton Baker.

Jim is also survived by his brother Dexter Counts of Bonnerdale; and three sisters, Jeanette (Michael) Canady of Memphis, Linda McGonigal of Lewisburg, Tenn., and Beverly (Manny) Salaz of Arizona.

Funeral is Thursday at 10 a.m. at Davis-Smith Funeral Home in Glenwood with Bro. Bob Wiyott officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held at Nelson Cemetery.

Visitation is tonight from 6-8 at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be James Counts, Brandon Counts, Alex Kendall, Clint McKellar, Jordan McKellar and Justin Baker.

Warren Edward Graddy

Warren Edward Graddy, 93, of Hoxie, passed away Nov. 3, 2014, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Born Feb. 26, 1921, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Oliver Lee and Minnie Brown Graddy. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in England as an airplane engine mechanic. He was a farmer and a rural route mail carrier in Hoxie.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cathy Kilgore; his parents; three brothers, Chelsie Graddy, Wendell Graddy and Kenneth Graddy; and a sister, Norene Graddy.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Graddy; a son, Steve Graddy and wife Lee Ann, Jonesboro; three daughters, Jean Fowler and husband Tommy, Jonesboro, and Mary Reid and husband Steve and Linda Black and husband David, all of Newport; a son-in-law, Kyle Kilgore, Maumelle; one brother, Jerry Graddy and wife Judy, Fort Myers, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Mary Catherine Graddy, Walnut Ridge; 11 grandchildren, Lindsey Wyerick, Patrick Wyerick, Andrew Kilgore, Tad Terrell, Kara Beth Terrell, Preston Graddy, Reed Graddy, Logan Wright, Grant Reid, Ben Black and Grant Black; two great-grandchildren, Alexis Terrell and Addie Grace Terrell; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral is Thursday at 2 p.m. at Bryan Funeral Home. Burial will be in Lawrence Memorial Park.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation is tonight from 6-8.

Kathy Lane Nicholas

Kathy Lane Nicholas, 55, of Hoxie, died Nov. 2, 2014, at her home.

Born Dec. 19, 1958, in Jonesboro, she was a waitress most of her life and enjoyed helping people.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie and Ida Mae Williams Woodard.

Survivors include a daughter, Terra Tyree and husband Brandon, Harrisburg; two sisters, Maryland Conley, Harrisburg, and Venecia Guntharp, Siloam Springs; a brother, Terry "Buddy" Woodard, Imboden; and three grandchildren, Jordan Smith, Madalyn Buchanan and Eli Buchanan.

A memorial service will be announced later by the family.

Elaine M. Novak, 94, of Rapid City, S.D., mother of Susan Weeks of Walnut Ridge, died Oct. 27, 2014, at Fountain Springs Healthcare. Betty L. Sharp

Betty Lou Sharp, 87, of Walnut Ridge, died Nov. 1, 2014, at Lawrence Hall Nursing Center.

Born Feb. 13, 1927, in Walnut Ridge, she was the daughter of Fred and Dora Patton Chadister. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles McEntire; and second husband, Harold Sharp; a daughter and son-in-law, Jenice and Danny Beardsley; and three brothers, Cornelius Chadister, Arthur Hawkins and Guy Hawkins.

Survivors include a son, Danny McEntire and wife Teresa, Clover Bend; a sister, Selma Stuart, Bend, Ore.; five grandchildren, David Beardsley, Chris McEntire, Jacob McEntire, Tina Hodge and Nina Carter; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Bryan Funeral Home with John Bailey officiating.
