Three mayoral races in Lawrence County were decided Tuesday, while a runoff will be held Nov. 25 for the position of Hoxie mayor, according to unofficial results released by County Clerk Tina Stowers.

Charles Snapp was elected Walnut Ridge Mayor with 850 votes (59 percent). Ed Lawson received 599 votes (41 percent).

Incumbent Don House announced earlier this year he would not to seek re-election.

In Hoxie, incumbent Lanny Tinker received the most votes but not enough to avoid a runoff. Tinker received 260 votes (41 percent), while Dennis Coggins received 223 votes (35 percent). Other candidates were Danny Vaughn with 102 votes (16 percent) and Russ Barber with 55 votes (9 percent).

In Portia, Kelly Duckworth was elected mayor with 105 votes (64 percent). Donnie Hillhouse received 32 votes (19 percent), and Carl Herring received 28 votes (17 percent). Mayor Jerry Sienknecht did not seek re-election.

Sedgwick mayor Stanley Debow won re-election with 44 votes (66 percent). Sam Vance received 23 votes (34 percent).

Aldermen

Alderman results are as follows:

Black Rock

Ward 1, position 2 ~ Heith Russell, 98 votes (57 percent), and Harold Willett, 75 votes (43 percent).

Hoxie

Ward 1, position 2 ~ Tim Taylor, 461 votes (74 percent), and Russell West, 162 votes (26 percent).

Ward 2, position 1 ~ Larry Couch, 382 votes (62 percent), Juanita Viola Madden, 238 votes (38 percent).

Ward 2, position 2 ~ Karen Williams, 378 votes (60 percent), Carroll Goodin, 144 votes (23 percent), and David T. Watson, 104 votes (17 percent).

Ward 3, position 1 ~ Becky Ditto, 333 votes (53 percent), and Kenneth Quarry, 295 votes (47 percent).

Portia

Position 1 ~ Joy Callahan, 111 votes (71 percent), and Terra Voyles, 45 votes (29 percent).

Position 2 ~ Stacey Boggs, 88 votes (56 percent), and Amanda “Mandy” Milligan, 69 votes (44 percent).

Position 3 ~ Julie Jones, 117 votes (73 percent), and Cord Boggs, 44 votes (27 percent).

Walnut Ridge

Ward 1, position 1 ~ Wendell S. Jones, 917 votes (64 percent), and JR Rogers, 514 votes (36 percent).

Ward 1, position 2 ~ Roger Duckworth, 517 votes (36 percent), Allen Smith, 496 votes (35 percent), Michelle Segraves, 349 votes (25 percent), and Gregory Snow, 56 votes (4 percent). Duckworth and Smith will be in a runoff on Nov. 25.

Ward 2, position 2 ~ Jeff Taylor, 729 votes (51 percent), and Don R. House, 702 votes (49 percent).

Ward 4, position 1 ~ Daniel Abbott, 816 votes (59 percent), and Allen McIntire, 576 votes (41 percent).

County race

The only race on the ballot at the county level was for justice of the peace position 2. Incumbent Donald Richey (D) received 280 votes (63 percent) to defeat challenger Franklin Brewer (R), who received 161 votes (37 percent). State legislature

James Ratliff was projected as the winner for state representative District 60, while Blake Johnson was leading for state senator District 20.

In Lawrence County Ratliff (D) of Imboden received 2,493 votes (55 percent, while Blaine Davis (R) of Hoxie received 2,070 votes (45 percent).

Johnson (R) of Corning received 2,338 votes (51 percent) in Lawrence County, while Thompson (D) of Paragould received 2,247 votes (49 percent).
