BEEBE SPEAKS AT AWARENESS DINNER ~ Gov. Mike Beebe visited the Breast Cancer Awareness Dinner held Oct. 7 at The Venue in Walnut Ridge. He spoke briefly about the courage and strength it takes to battle cancer to the approximately 80 in attendance at the dinner. The event was sponsored by Lawrence Memorial Hospital and Lawrence Memorial Health Foundation.

Work begins on WOH addition

Construction workers began erecting steel framework for the Wings of Honor Museum's new addition on Oct. 8. The addition will include a 20-by-80-foot expansion of the museum's WWII exhibit.

Thomas selected for Arkansas
Military Veterans Hall of Fame

In the 1960's, two years of ROTC (Reserve Officers' Training Corps) was mandatory for male students at Arkansas State University. Walnut Ridge native Tom Thomas said he took the mandatory training but not the advanced. "I didn't like the military," he said.

Early voting begins Monday

Early voting for the Nov. 4 General Election will begin Monday at 8 a.m. in County Clerk Tina Stowers' office, located in the Lawrence County Courthouse.
