A dominating first half powered the Hoxie Mustangs to a 35-0 win over Cave City in senior high football action Friday night at Crider Field.

Hoxie's offense was led by the duo of Cole Sears and Gunner Cook. Sears again passed and ran for multiple scores, while Cook turned in his third 100-yard rushing effort of the season.

The Mustang defense also turned in a stellar performance, limiting the Cavemen to just 75 yards of total offense for the game.

Sears opened the scoring with a four-yard run at the 7:57 mark of the first quarter. Cook scored on a 10-yard run later in period to put the Mustangs ahead 14-0. Hunter Wilson hauled in a 28-yard touchdown pass from Sears, as Hoxie moved out to a 21-0 first-quarter advantage.

The Mustangs continued to roll in the second quarter. Sears passed nine yards to James Johnson with 5:14 to play in the period. Hoxie's final score came on Cook's 16-yard run 35 seconds before intermission.

Casey Middlecoff connected on all five of his extra-point attempts in the first half, as the Mustangs held a commanding 35-0 lead at halftime.

Sears finished with 11 completions in 16 pass attempts, for 144 yards and two touchdowns.

Cook led the Mustangs in rushing, with 103 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries. Sears added 59 yards and a pair of scores on eight carries. Gunner Riggs also totaled 59 yards, on five attempts. Johnson carried twice for 12 yards. Samuel Hatfield had four yards on four carries, and Dylan Cheatham added two yards on two carries.

Johnson had three receptions for 38 yards and a touchdown. Cook caught three passes for 30 yards. Austen Blocker and Dylan Littlejohn each had two receptions, for 23 and 21 yards, respectively. Wilson had one catch for 29 yards and a touchdown.

Riggs led Hoxie's defense with seven tackles, and Chase Spradlin had six stops. Hunter Wadkins, Austin Williams and Cheatham each recorded four tackles.
