Bobcats fall to Riverview
The Riverview Raiders rolled into Sexton Field and handed Walnut Ridge a 42-6 loss in the Bobcats' home opener Friday night.
The Raiders jumped out to a 6-0 lead when Andrew Moore intercepted a Bobcat pass and returned it for a touchdown with 7:24 remaining in the first quarter. Xavier Barrow scored on a one-yard run with 1:59 to play in the period. The two-point conversion gave Riverview a 14-0 lead after one quarter.
Barrow scored on a six-yard run early in the second quarter to stretch Riverview's lead to 21-0.
Later in the quarter, the Walnut Ridge defense recovered a Riverview fumble at the Raiders' 16-yard line to set up the Bobcats' only score. Will Weir capped the short drive with a quarterback keeper from a yard out to bring the Cats to within 21-6 with 5:59 to play before halftime.
Riverview ended hopes of a Bobcat comeback when Barrow ran for two more touchdowns, from five yards and nine yards, to give the Raiders an insurmountable 36-6 lead at the break.
The Raiders' final points came on a two-yard run by quarterback David Lee with 5:40 to play in the third quarter.
Weir finished with 10 completions on 17 attempts, for 48 yards.
Tyler Andrews led Walnut Ridge in rushing with 26 yards on six carries. Luke Harper added 13 yards on 10 carries.
Cash Lee had five receptions for 19 yards. Martin Crisler and Michael Bounds each had two receptions for 16 and nine yards, respectively, and Tyler Barnes caught one pass for four yards.
Walnut Ridge is 0-2 on the season and will travel to Harrisburg on Friday. Game time is 7 p.m.
