Sean and Emily Allen of Jonesboro have announced the birth of a daughter, born Sept. 5, 2014, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital.

The baby weighed nine pounds, 15 ounces, and has been named Halcyon "Hallie" Lees Allen. She has an older brother, Griffin Stephen Allen, three.

Baylor Harvey Bagwell

Nick and Chasity Bagwell of Imboden have announced the birth of their first child, a son, born Aug. 2, 2014, at St. Bernards Birthcare Center in Jonesboro.

The baby weighed seven pounds, one ounce, and has been named Baylor Harvey Bagwell.

Grandparents are Sheila Becker of Sedgwick and Sandi Bagwell and Jay Bagwell, both of Powhatan.

He is the great-grandson of Butch Bruner and James and Thelma Becker, all of Jonesboro, and Larry and Clara Fortenberry of Bono.

Vanessa Rae Brawley of Walnut Ridge has announced the birth of a daughter, born Sept. 4, 2014, at St. Bernards Birthcare Center.

The baby weighed seven pounds, 14 ounces, and has been named Kaitlynn Rae Brawley.

Grandparents are Keith and Donna Brawley of Walnut Ridge.

Great-grandparents are Ruby Gardner of Walnut Ridge and Patsy Elder of St. Louis.

Jordan and Sara Cooksey of Walnut Ridge have announced the birth of their first child, a son, born Aug. 28, 2014, at St. Bernards Birthcare Center.

The baby weighed seven pounds, 13 ounces, and has been named Wyatt Cole Cooksey.

Grandparents are Steve and Donna Cooksey of Hardy, William and Brenda Isreal of Ravenden and Denny and Linda Francis of De Soto, Mo.

Great-grandparents are Wanda Spargo of Walnut Ridge, Pauline Cooksey of Pocahontas and Helen Isreal of Ravenden.

Adam and Heather Finley of Williford have announced the birth of their first child, a son, born Aug. 28, 2014, at St. Bernards Birthcare Center.

The baby weighed eight pounds, three ounces, and has been named Cooper Adam Finley.

Spencer and Ashley Wright of Saffell have announced the birth of a son on Aug. 29, 2014, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro.

The baby weighed eight pounds, six ounces, and has been named Walker Clay Wright.

He has two older brothers, Hunter and Gunner.

Grandparents are Vincent and Jennifer Wright of Strawberry, David and Debbie Wigginton of Cave City and Tena Wright of Lynn.

He is the great-grandson Charles and Shelby Randolph of Strawberry, Alice Harris of Lynn, John Wigginton of Cave City and Gary and Judy Brannon of Farmerville, La.

Aurora Moore of Cave City is the great-great-grandmother.

Pankey ~ Barton

Deshawn and Vivian Pankey of Lynn have announced the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Elaina Lynn Pankey, to Zachary Ryne Barton, son of Stacy Barton of Saffell.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Melburn and Lois Sheets of Hoxie, Howard Pankey of Imboden and the late Carolyn Pankey. She is the great-granddaughter of Irene Martin of Walnut Ridge.

She is a 2010 graduate of Hillcrest High School and a student at Williams Baptist College, where she studies biology.

The prospective groom is the grandson of Pam Martz of Salem and the late Lloyd Martz.

He graduated from Hillcrest High School in 2010 and studies criminology at Arkansas State University.

The couple will exchange vows in a formal double-ring ceremony on Oct. 4, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Manley Chapel on the WBC campus. A reception will follow in the Walnut Ridge Community Room.

Elbert Revell and Deborah Louise Voyles of Black Rock have announced the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Crystal LaGail Voyles, to Glenn Lee Malewski, son of Ray and Linda Malewski.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Louise Perry of Bella Vista.

The couple will exchange vows in a formal, double ring ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014, at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Hoxie.

Virginia Bennett

Virginia Bennett, 83, of Little Rock, formerly of Walnut Ridge, died Sept. 14, 2014, at the Briarwood Nursing and Rehab Center in Little Rock.

Born Jan. 20, 1931, at Calvin Crossing, she was the daughter of Lehman and Viola Hall Guffey. She was a homemaker and was of the Catholic faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Bennett, in 2003; and a sister, Betty Jo Guffey White.

Survivors include two sons, Sloan Bennett and wife Kelly, and Swannee Bennett, all of Little Rock; five grandchildren, Michelle Mollette, Robert Bennett, Damon Duncan, Crystal Duncan and Nathan Duncan; three great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Jerry W. Anderson, Little Rock.

Funeral is Friday at 10 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Burial will be in Strangers Home Cemetery under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home.

Visitation is Thursday from 5-7 p.m., with Rosary at 7 at the funeral home.

Alma Grooms

Alma Vaudine Grooms, 80, of Strawberry, died Sept. 9, 2014, at her home.

Born June 1, 1934, in Bono, she was the daughter of James Maddison and Ethel Nolan Davis. She had lived in Strawberry for the past 20 years. She was a homemaker and was of the Protestant belief.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Jason Carroll.

Survivors include her husband, Jimmie Grooms, whom she married Nov. 11, 1950; four daughters, Velda Jean Carroll, Carol Hobbs, Kay Grooms Gray and Tammy Jolly; two sisters, Mary Tieken and Betty Miller; a brother, Larry Davis; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Graveside service was Saturday at 2 p.m. at Ward Cemetery with Craig Campbell officiating. House-Gregg Funeral Home of Lynn had charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Cletus Miller, Allen Carroll, Jimmy Kent, Joe Miller, Larry Jolly and Gary Hobbs. Honorary pallbearer was Al Carroll.

Megan Marie Hack

Megan Marie Hack, 24, of Alicia, died Sept. 13, 2014, at White River Medical Center.

Born Dec. 5, 1989, in Redlands, Calif., she was of the Lutheran faith.

Survivors include her parents, Andrew and Kimberly Hack Sloan; three brothers, Raymond Hack, El Paso, and Jonathan Sloan and Jacob Sloan, both of Alicia; a sister, Rebecca Sloan, Alicia; grandparents, Ellen Cook, California, Martha Sloan, Cape Canaveral, Fla., and Larry Sloan, North Carolina; and great-grandmother, Mary Tieken, Strawberry.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Shirley A. Hames

Shirley Ann Hames, 78, of Charlotte, N.C., died Aug. 14, 2014. Born March 3, 1936, in Bay, she was the daughter of Clarance and Viola Choate.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Stark; two sons, Richard Williams and Steve Williams; and her grandparents, Leo and Eunice Choate.

Survivors include two daughters, Nena Worthy and husband Jim, and Margie Schindler and husband Dave; a sister, Betty Maxie, Hoxie; a brother, Calvin Choate, Streamwood, Ill.; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Burial was in Trezevant, Tenn.

Jack House

Jack House, 75, of Little Rock, died Sept. 14, 2014, at his home.

Born Oct. 29, 1938, in Alicia, he was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of Lifeline Baptist Church. He worked as a purchasing agent for Parts Warehouse for 40 years. His most enjoyable hobby was woodworking and building birdhouses.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jackie House; his parents, Roy and Edna House; and a sister, Juanita Crumpton.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Janie Hooker House; a son, Michael House, Little Rock; two brothers, Glen House, Searcy, and J.W. House, Cabot; and a sister, Wanda Moon, Swifton.

Funeral is Thursday at 10 a.m. at Griffin Leggett Forest Hills Funeral Home in Alexander with Bro. Jeff Dial officiating.

Visitation is Thursday, one hour prior to the service.

Kolton Ray Lester

Kolton Ray Lester, infant son of Eugene and Kendra Roach Lester of Pocahontas, was born Sept. 2, 2014, at Harris Hospital in Newport, and died Sept. 2.

Wilma Petero

Wilma JoAnn Gatewood Petero, 72, of Hoxie, died Sept. 8, 2014, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Born April 12, 1942, in Bragg City, Mo., she was a lifelong resident of Hoxie and a member of Main Street Church of Christ in Walnut Ridge.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Stella Irene Ledbetter Gatewood; a brother, Jesse Eugene “Tiny” Gatewood; three sisters, Linda Stayton, Pauline Chapell and Ella Hyde; her stepfather, Arlie Lewis; and three stepsisters, Fern Davis, Paulett Dildine and Mary Hays.

Survivors include her companion, Bob Turnblom; a son, Alvin Petero, Minturn; two daughters, Schelley Dobbs, Hoxie, and Kelly Cheatham, Walnut Ridge; four brothers, Clark Gatewood, Lauratown, Bob Gatewood, Paragould, Jimmy Gatewood, Alton, Mo., and James Gatewood, Little Rock; two sisters, Norma Counce, Hoxie, and Alice Lansdale, Kalamazoo, Mich.; two stepbrothers, Rick Lewis and J.R. Lewis; and two stepsisters, Brenda Mercer and Willie Tyler.

Funeral was Thursday at 11 a.m. at Main Street Church of Christ in Walnut Ridge with Rob Combs officiating. Burial was in Whittaker Cemetery under the direction of House-Gregg Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Zachary Manus, Dylan Cheatham, Dillon Cagle, Spencer Petero, Tanner Petero and Chase Petero. Honorary pallbearers were Justin Petero and nephews.

Alma Christena Powell

Alma Christena “Chris” Duncan Powell, 80, of Ferris, Texas, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014, in Ferris.

Born Monday, April 2, 1934, in Smithville, she was the daughter of James and Nora Vincin Wildrick Duncan and attended school at Lynn. She was an airbrush artist and a member of First Assembly of God Church in Atoka, Okla. She loved her dogs, flowers, working in her garden and watching hummingbirds.

She was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, Henry D. Abee, whom she married in January 1950; her second husband, Goffery A. Powell, whom she married in May 1972 in Dallas; an infant daughter, Henrietta Abee; two brothers, George “Buster” Duncan and James Duncan Jr.; a sister, Mary Johnson; and two great-grandsons, Shane Scott and infant Christian Zahay Cooke.

Survivors include four daughters, Janie Parks and husband Tommy and Brenda Atilano and husband Joe, all of Ferris, Texas; Cecelia Ann West, Sherman, Texas, and Ocia Abee Rodriquez, Irving, Texas; a brother, Bert Duncan and wife Mildred, Southside; and three sisters, Janiece Cross and husband Jerry, Charlotte, Cleaetta Poland and husband Bob, Tom Bean, Texas, and Deborah Martinez, Sherman, Texas.

She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Ted Wilson and wife Dana, Bixby, Okla., Deon Cooke and wife Beth, Bells, Texas, Jeremie Atilano Sr. and wife Leann, and Joshua Atilano, all of Waxahachie, Texas, Christena “Tena” Scott and husband Mick, and Kelly Ingrum and husband Randy, all of Atoka, Okla., Rayann Castillo, Albuquerque, N.M., Misty Benson and husband Nathan, Dallas, Leta Hamilton and husband Luke, Irving, Texas, and Kristy Henson and husband Aaron, Maumelle.

Also surviving are 17 great-grandchildren, Dustin Eagleberger and wife Tamra, Christen Scott, Paige Wilson, Jake Wilson, Katelyn Ingrum, Phoebe Ingrum, Jeremie Atilano Jr., Joe Atilano, Mia Atilano, Hayden Henson, Camden Henson, Patience Cooke, Hope Cooke, Rayna Cooke, Eric Cooke, Shauntae Castillo, Shawn Sprinkle and Justin Sprinkle; two great-great-grandsons, Raishaun Cooke and Lucky Sprinkle; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and church family.

Funeral was Friday at 2 p.m. at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Atoka, Okla., with Bro. Bob Wingo officiating. Burial was in Bera Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ted Wilson, Deon Cooke, Jeremie Atilano, Joshua Atilano, Mick Scott and Randy Ingrum. Honorary pallbearers were Bobby Wilson, Joe Atilano, Bert Duncan, Aaron Henson, Dustin Eagleberger, Bob Frederick, Marcello Rodriquez, Tommy Parks and Bill Abee.

Louise Smith

Louise Smith, 97, of Jonesboro, died Sept. 15, 2014, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.

Born July 5, 1917, at Clover Bend, she was the daughter of Walter and Zillah Smith Parrish. She had lived in Boise, Idaho, most of her adult life before returning to Arkansas. She was a homemaker and a member of the Jonesboro Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas G. Smith; and several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include three brothers, Fred Parrish and Lowell Parrish, both of Rockford, Ill., and Olen Parrish, Pocahontas; and a sister, Mary Lena Parrish, Rockford, Ill.

Graveside service is today at 1 p.m. at Oak Forest Cemetery with Josh Christy officiating. House-Gregg Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Chad Parrish, Michael King, Trey Dupuy, Greg Parrish, Mark King and Olen Parrish.
