HARVEST SEASON BEGINS IN LAWRENCE COUNTY ~ Lawrence County farmers, including this farmer from PP&H Farms off Evergreen Road, are busy with the fall harvest or preparing for the harvest. Several are already harvesting rice in the fields, while others plan to begin cutting next week.

County to look into
locations for new jail

After a recent review of the Lawrence County Jail, the Arkansas Jail Standards Committee voted to close the facility. Working with Attorney General Dustin McDaniel, the county was able to get a six-month extension, which will provide the time needed to determine the next course of action.

School election Tuesday

The annual school election is Tuesday, with the Lawrence County School District being the only district required to conduct the election through polling sites.

Sheriff Vic Hanshaw remembered

Vic and Roberta were married 59 years. "It's hard to let go of them both in such a short time," Mark said. Vic seemed to be adjusting relatively well to her death, but after that many years of marriage, it must have been difficult, the Hanshaw boys said.

Beatles photo collection coming to WR festival

A huge collection of Beatles photographs and images is set for display at the Beatles at the Ridge music festival Sept. 19 and 20. The Argenta Collection will be unveiled at the annual festival in downtown Walnut Ridge.
