Lady Mustangs have
busy opening week

Hoxie opened the volleyball season by hosting Newport on Aug. 25.

In the senior high match, the Lady Mustangs won the first set 25-17, but dropped the next three 20-25, 21-25, 19-25.

For Hoxie, Krista Vankirk had five assists, two digs, 12 kills and two blocks. Sequoia Irvin had one assist, three digs, two kills and two blocks. Brooke Willfond had 11 digs and a kill. Zoe Willfond had 15 assists and Cheyenne Hatfield had six kills. Katelyn Jamison had 12 digs and two kills. Emily Hatfield had four digs, and Alyson Smith had a dig.

Hoxie's junior high team defeated Newport 25-8, 25-15.

Kelsey Moody had six assists and six kills. Sydney Gillham had two digs and five kills. Christin Barker added two digs, and Kerry Woodson had eight assists. Kayla Roberts finished with three kills and a block, and Kenzie Orrick had a dig.

Cave City

The Lady Mustangs traveled to Cave City on Aug. 26.

The senior high team lost the first two sets 23-25, 22-25, but rallied to win the next two 25-19, 25-22. The Cavewomen won the fifth set 15-7 to take the match.

Vankirk had two assists, a dig and eight kills. Irvin had three digs and a kill. Brooke Willfond had two digs and a kill. Cheyenne Hatfield had a kill, and Zoe Willfond had seven assists. Smith had a dig and two kills. Jamison had a kill, and Emily Hatfield had two digs.

The junior Lady Mustangs swept Cave City 25-8, 25-11.

Moody had two assists, a dig and a kill. Gillham had a dig and four kills. Barker had a dig and Roberts added two kills.


Hoxie's junior and senior high volleyball teams defeated Trumann Thursday at Trumann.

Hoxie won the senior high match in three sets 25-20, 25-17, 25-11.

Brooke Willfond had an ace, two kills and five digs. Jamison had two kills and four digs. Vankirk had five kills, six assists, a dig and a block. Irvin had three aces, a kill and four digs, and Zoe Willfond had five assists. Smith and Cheyenne Hatfield each had a kill, and Emily Hatfield had four digs.

The junior Lady Mustangs also swept Trumann, winning by scores of 25-9 and 25-7.
