Reid Alexander Hoffman

Daniel and Jennifer Hoffman of Walnut Ridge have announced the birth of a son, born on Aug. 9, 2014, at St. Bernard’s Birthcare Center in Jonesboro.

The baby weighed eight pounds, 11 ounces, and has been named Reid Alexander Hoffman. He has two siblings, Kaylee, 10, and Joel, eight.

Darcy Mae Ragsdale

Justin Ragsdale of Black Rock and Lacey Cobble of Walnut Ridge have announced the birth of a daughter, born on Aug. 12, 2014, at St. Bernards Birthcare Center in Jonesboro.

The baby weighed seven pounds, seven ounces, and has been named Darcy Mae Ragsdale.

Grandparents are Joyce Dobbs and Jeff Williams, both of Walnut Ridge; Larry and Connie Ragsdale of Black Rock; Kurt and Lisa Weiand of Hardy; and the late Rodney Dobbs.

Great-grandparents are Earl and Dianne Ragsdale and Brilla Hall, all of Black Rock; Randy and Cathy Boyd of Ravenden; Terry and Holly Darnall of Jonesboro; Danny and Pam Smith, Randy Cobble and Kathy Dobbs, all of Walnut Ridge.

Johnson ~ Singleton

Wayne and Stacy Johnson of Willow Springs, Mo., have announced the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Jordan Rene Johnson, to Jonathan Blake Singleton, son of Larry and Brenda Singleton of Paragould, formerly of Walnut Ridge.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Bill and Emma Johnson of Willow Springs, Mo. She is employed at Orthodontic Specialists of the Ozarks in Mountain Home.

The prospective groom is the grandson of Loree Cross of Paragould and Billy Singleton of Marmaduke. He is a graduate of Arkansas State University and is a sales representative for Costal Energy of Missouri.

The couple will exchange vows Oct. 4, 2014, at the Wagon Wheel Resort in Gamaliel and will reside in Mountain Home.

Spargo ~ Herring

Jeff Spargo of Pocahontas and Margie LeBlanc of Hoxie have announced the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Staci Lynn Spargo, to Tyler Jared Herring, son of Ray and Stacy Herring of Jonesboro.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Charles and Mary Spargo of Walnut Ridge and Shirley LeBlanc of Hoxie.

She is a graduate of Walnut Ridge High School and is currently enrolled in the occupational therapy assistant program at Concorde Career College in Memphis.

The prospective groom is the grandson of Carolynne Herring of Bono and the late Douglas Herring and Bo and Carin Johnson of Brookland.

He is a graduate of Brookland High School and Williams Baptist College. He is employed at WBC as the assistant softball coach.

The couple will exchange vows on Oct. 4, 2014, at 4:30 p.m. at The Silos Barn in Bono. A reception will immediately follow the ceremony at the Silos.

All family and friends are invited to attend.

Rex Lee Hart

Rex Lee Hart, 73, of Walnut Ridge, died Aug. 30, 2014, at NEA Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro.

Born Jan. 29, 1941, in the Richwoods community, he had worked at Smith Implement, Mitchell Gulf and Thermogas as a truck driver. He was of the Pentecostal belief.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Macey Jones Hart.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Joyce Agnew Hart, whom he married June 2, 1961, at Mammoth Spring; a son, Brian Hart and wife Teressa, Hoxie; three daughters, Monica Hart, Jonesboro, Shannon Lundquist and husband Erik, Gypsum, Colo., and Shauna Tennison, Eudora, Miss.; three brothers, H.V. Hart, Walnut Ridge, Jim Hart, Hoxie, and Junior Hart, Portia; five sisters, Judy Kazzee, Pocahontas, Peggy Cassidy, Poplar Bluff, Mo., Charlotte McClintock, Loves Park, Ill., Carol Plaster, Bull Shoals, and Betty Johnson, Houston; nine grandchildren, Brandi Whitlow, Brittney Whitlow, Mariah Meeks, Austin Thomas, Garrett Hart, Spencer Hart, Rhiannon Tennison, Savannah Tennison, Jacob Hart and one on the way; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Cox Funeral Home with Dale Hughart and Glenn Smith officiating. Burial was in Lawrence Memorial Park.

Pallbearers were Garrett Hart, Spencer Hart, Randy Mize, Darren Roberts, Trevor Meeks and Austin Thomas.

Weldon Holder

Weldon Levell Holder, 91, of Walnut Ridge, died Aug. 26, 2014, at Pecan Valley Rehab and Healthcare in San Antonio.

Born Nov. 25, 1922, in Walnut Ridge, he was the son of Ervin Pete and Lillie Odessa Overstreet Holder. He was a farmer in early life and then worked as a stock clerk at a local grocery store. He was a longtime member and deacon of First Baptist Church in Walnut Ridge.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Holder, in 2011; a brother, three sisters; and a son-in-law, Jesse Lujan.

Survivors include a daughter, Peggy Lujan, San Antonio; a brother, Bill Holder, Walnut Ridge; a grandson, Anthony Lujan; and five great-grandchildren, A.J. Lujan, Reagan Lujan, Hannah Lujan, Easton Lujan and Penelope Lujan.

Funeral was Tuesday at noon at Bryan Funeral Home with Bro. Jake Guenrich officiating. Burial was in Lawrence Memorial Park.

Pallbearers were Anthony Lujan, A.J. Lujan, John Holder, John Cook, Bob McNeal and Gaylon Massengill.

Dortha Carolita Montgomery

Dortha Carolita Montgomery, 88, of Jonesboro, died Aug. 28, 2014, at her home.

Born June 14, 1926, in Kennett, Mo., she was the daughter of James Arthur "Doc" and Tina Robertson Kirby. She was a homemaker and a member of Washington Avenue Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Leo Montgomery, on Feb. 19, 2014, whom she married April 8, 1944; a brother, J.T. Kirby; a sister, Annie Merritt; and a great-granddaughter, Adrynn Carolita Coots.

Survivors include a daughter, Shelia Brogdon, Jonesboro; five sons, Sam Montgomery and Ken Montgomery, both of Egypt, Bill Montgomery and wife Judy, and Ronnie Montgomery, all Bono, and James Montgomery and wife Jackie, Jonesboro; a brother, Doyle Kirby, Elizabeth; three sisters, Verna Lee Chailland, Springfield, Mo., Dortha Hulvey, Collierville, Tenn., and Linda Collins, Patterson, Mo.; 23 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; and 16 geat-great-grandchildren.

Graveside service was Saturday at 3 p.m. at Lawrence Memorial Park with Kenneth Gossett officiating. House-Gregg Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Ronnie Dean Montgomery, Steven Montgomery, Brad Montgomery, Richey Montgomery and Shawn Coots. Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, Dr. Thomas Mulligan, the staff of Total Life Health Care and her caregiver, Leah Marvets.

Virginia Ruth Moore

Virginia Ruth Lackey Moore, 86, of Little Rock, was born in Pulaski, Ill., and went to be with the Lord on Aug. 25, 2014. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Jacob Lackey and Meddie Belle Grimmer Lackey.

At the age of five, she met a young boy in her neighborhood named Harold Ray "Radie" Moore who, over time, became the love of her life. They courted the entire four years while Radie was serving in the Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Shortly after Radie returned from the war, Virginia and Radie were married in Walnut Ridge on Feb. 23, 1946. They spent the next 68 years of their wonderful marriage together and were blessed to have four children, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Virginia was devoted to her husband and family and she was dearly loved by them all. Virginia was an optimistic, adventurous and loving woman who never met a stranger. She lived life to its fullest, traveled the world and made friends everywhere she went. She loved to make greeting cards and helped form a monthly organization, RSVP, dedicated to friendship and crafting. In 1969, Virginia earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from the University of Texas at El Paso and, after moving to Arkansas, taught eighth through 12th grade English at Black Rock High School.

She is survived by her husband, Radie; her four children, Dr. Terrence Lee Moore and his wife Karen, Dr. Linda Ruth Moore, David Ray Moore and his wife Sandie, and Melissa Moore Yates and her husband Doug. Her grandchildren include Russell Moore and his wife, Diane, Kevin Moore and his wife, Dawn, Christopher Moore and his wife, Allison, and Sam Yates. Virginia is also survived by seven great-grandchildren and by her brother Thomas Jacob Lackey Jr. and his wife, Marlene. She was preceded in death by her sister Janet Lackey Irwin.

Funeral services were held at Fellowship Bible Church in Little Rock on Friday at 3 p.m. with Rev. Bill Parkinson officiating. Burial was in Lawrence Memorial Park on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Alma Christena Powell

Alma Christena "Chris" Duncan Powell, 80, of Ferris, Texas, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014, in Ferris.

Born Monday, April 2, 1934, in Smithville, she was the daughter of James and Nora Vincin Wildrick Duncan and attended school at Lynn. She was an airbrush artist and a member of First Assembly of God Church in Atoka, Okla. She loved her dogs, flowers, working in her garden and watching hummingbirds.

She was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, Henry D. Abee, whom she married in January 1950; her second husband, Goffery A. Powell, whom she married in May 1972 in Dallas; an infant daughter, Henrietta Abee; two brothers, George "Buster" Duncan and James Duncan Jr.; a sister, Mary Johnson; and two great-grandsons, Shane Scott and infant Christian Zahay Cooke.

Survivors include four daughters, Janie Parks and husband Tommy and Brenda Atilano and husband Joe, all of Ferris, Texas; Cecelia Ann West, Sherman, Texas, and Ocia Abee Rodriquez, Irving, Texas; a brother, Bert Duncan and wife Mildred, Southside; and three sisters, Janiece Cross and husband Jerry, Charlotte, Cleaetta Poland and husband Bob, Tom Bean, Texas, and Deborah Martinez, Sherman, Texas.

She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Ted Wilson and wife Dana, Bixby, Okla., Deon Cooke and wife Beth, Bells, Texas, Jeremie Atilano Sr. and wife Leann, and Joshua Atilano, all of Waxahachie, Texas, Christena "Tena" Scott and husband Mick, and Kelly Ingrum and husband Randy, all of Atoka, Okla., Rayann Castillo, Albuquerque, N.M., Misty Benson and husband Nathan, Dallas, Leta Hamilton and husband Luke, Irving, Texas, and Kristy Henson and husband Aaron, Maumelle.

Also surviving are 17 great-grandchildren, Dustin Eagleberger and wife Tamra, Christen Scott, Paige Wilson, Jake Wilson, Katelyn Ingrum, Phoebe Ingrum, Jeremie Atilano Jr., Joe Atilano, Mia Atilano, Hayden Henson, Camden Henson, Patience Cooke, Hope Cooke, Rayna Cooke, Eric Cooke, Shauntae Castillo, Shawn Sprinkle and Justin Sprinkle; two great-great-grandsons, Raishaun Cooke and Lucky Sprinkle; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and church family.

Funeral was Friday at 2 p.m. at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Atoka, Okla., with Bro. Bob Wingo officiating. Burial was in Bera Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ted Wilson, Deon Cooke, Jeremie Atilano, Joshua Atilano, Mick Scott and Randy Ingrum. Honorary pallbearers were Bobby Wilson, Joe Atilano, Bert Duncan, Aaron Henson, Dustin Eagleberger, Bob Frederick, Marcello Rodriquez, Tommy Parks and Bill Abee.

Virginia Louise Sienknecht

Virginia Louise Sienknecht, 71, of Portia, died Aug. 28, 2014, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.

Born Nov. 9, 1942, in Newport, she was an administrator for a school and was of the Protestant belief.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred T. Sr. and Virginia Louise Keller Ratliff; and two brothers, Homer Ratliff and Fred Ratliff Jr.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry Sienknecht; a son, Douglas Damron, Washington, D.C.; two daughters, Michelle Reynolds, Kissimmee, Fla., and Stephanie Atallian, Franklin, Tenn.; and a stepson, Dave Sienknecht, San Jose, Calif.

Graveside service was Monday at 11 a.m. at Lawrence Memorial Park with Rev. Dan Duncan officiating. Bryan Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Sylvia Juanita Stark

Sylvia Juanita "Gilly" Rainey Stark, 93, of Walnut Ridge, died Aug. 26, 2014, at her home.

Born May 29, 1921, on Boll Weevil Plantation in Poinsett County, she was the youngest child of Earl P. and Mollie Ellen Frazier Rainey.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Stark; five sisters; four brothers; and a grandson, John Bradley Matthews.

Survivors include two daughters, Suzanne Harp, Black Rock, and Lyne Abernathy and husband Mark, Little Rock; four grandsons, Chris Matthews, Layne Matthews, Brett Bassett and Jack Abernathy; and two great-granddaughters.

A private celebration of her life was held Thursday, with burial following in Marked Tree Cemetery.

Clotilda Stowers

Clotilda Stowers, 75, of Hoxie, died Aug. 29, 2014, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.

Born June 3, 1939, in Hondo, Texas, she was a homemaker and of the Pentecostal faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Gene Stowers; and her parents, Andrew and Aurora Jarimello Trinidad.

Survivors include two sons, Gene Stowers, Walnut Ridge, and John Stowers Sr. and wife Connie, Maynard; three brothers, Lorenzo Trinidad, Trumann, Domingo Trinidad, Jonesboro, and Dimas Trinidad, Lake City; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral is today at 2 p.m. at Bryan Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Cochran officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery at Pocahontas.

Pallbearers will be Paul Stowers, Ernest Liles, Ernest Dean Liles, Terry Trinidad and Jacob Trinidad. Honorary pallbearer will be John Stowers Jr.

Dora Juanita Wheeler

Dora Juanita Hufford Wheeler, 81, of Pocahontas, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2014, at Randolph County Nursing Home in Pocahontas.

She was born March 18, 1933, in Mason, to James Vance and Bennie Lois Daniel Toye. She was a homemaker and a member of the Westridge Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Donald R. Hufford; her second husband, Allen Wheeler; her parents; two sisters, Inez Hawkins and Gaynelle Horton; and a brother, Vance Toye.

Survivors include six children, Charles R. Hufford, Larry Hufford Sr., Donita Colburn, Saunia Rorex, Dale Hufford and Mike Hufford; four sisters, Fayedell Hill, Geneva Gwaltney, Phyllis Weisenbach and Sharon Nieman; and a brother, Charles Toye.

Funeral was Saturday at 11 a.m. at Cox Funeral Home with Ray Fultner officiating. Burial was in Maynard Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Larry Hufford Jr., Donnie Hufford, Robert Colburn, Rodney Rorex, Josh Hufford and Nick Hufford. Honorary pallbearers were Chuck Hufford and Joseph Hufford.

Dennis Dale Williams

Dennis Dale Williams, 57, of Hoxie, died Aug. 27, 2014.

Born March 14, 1957, in Newport, he was the son of Herbert and Rubie Defries Williams.

Survivors include a daughter, Carrie Doyle, Portia; a son, Nathan Williams; his mother, Rubie Defries Williams, Walnut Ridge; three brothers, Eddie Williams, Reyno, Jack Williams, Paragould, and Herbert Williams, Cherokee Village; and a grandson, Evan Doyle.
