School election early
voting begins Tuesday

The early voting period has been set for the annual school election, according to County Clerk Tina Stowers.

Hillcrest, Hoxie and Sloan-Hendrix districts are conducting their elections entirely through early and absentee voting because there are no contested school board races in the county. Early voting begins on Tuesday and ends on Monday, Sept. 15. Absentee voting ballots are available by calling the county clerk's office at 886-1111 during regular business hours.

The Lawrence County School District is the only district that is required to conduct the election through polling sites. The district is asking for 39.3 mills in school taxes, which is a 6.9 mill increase. If passed the increase would provide needed and desired campus upgrades.

Patrons of the district can vote early or on election day, Sept. 16, with polls opening at 7:30 a.m. and closing at 7:30 p.m.

Polling sites are: Campbell 1, 2, 3 and 4, Cache, Richwoods and Promise Land at Lawrence County Meeting Room, Marion at Alicia City Hall, Duty at Portia City Hall, Black River at Powhatan Community Center and Black Rock at Black Rock City Hall.
