Races develop for
The filing period for municipal offices closed on Friday at noon, with races developing for four mayoral positions, as well as several alderman seats throughout the county.
Walnut Ridge Mayor Don House announced earlier this year that he would not be seeking re-election. Ed Lawson and Charles Snapp have both filed for that position.
A four-man race is slated for the Hoxie mayoral position with incumbent Lanny Tinker facing challengers Russ Barber, Dennis Coggins and Danny Vaughn.
In Portia, Kelly Duckworth, Donnie Hillhouse and Carl Herring will be on the ballot for mayor. Mayor Jerry Sienknecht did not seek re-election.
Sedgwick mayoral candidates will be incumbent Stanley Debow and Sam Vance.
Alderman races are as follows:
Black Rock - ward 1, position 2, Heith Russell, Harold Willett.
Hoxie - ward 1, position 2, Tim Taylor, Russell West; ward 2, position 2, Juanita Viola Madden, Carroll Goodin, David T. Watson, Karen Williams; ward 3, position 1, Becky Ditto, Kenneth Quarry.

Municipal elections are non-partisan, and races will be on the Nov. 4 General Election ballot.
Drawing for ballot positions for the General Election will be held by the Lawrence County Election Commissioners on Thursday at 2 p.m. It will be in the lobby of the Lawrence County Courthouse. The public and candidates are welcome to attend.
