Group effort nets results at WR park
City of Walnut Ridge employees, as well as community members and elected officials, joined forces on Thursday to mark several item’s off the “to do” list at Stewart Park.

While Lawrence County continues to have issues with overcrowding in its jail, adding a state prison in the county would not address that issue.

NEARIFA receives grant
A $20,000 grant has been awarded to the Northeast Arkansas Regional Intermodal Facilities Authority (NEARIFA) to be used for planning and preparation for Peco Foods. The money will be used to help offset the expense of traveling to other communities that have been through the same type of growth expected here with the arrival of Peco, according to NEARIFA Executive Director Wayne Gearhart.

Volunteers have begun working to keep the Lawrence County Rail-Trail maintained. The Community Revitalization and Beautification Committee with the Chamber of Commerce is spearheading the effort, in conjunction with the county’s Rail-Trail Committee.
The filing period for municipal offices began Friday at noon and several had already filed their petitions with County Clerk Tina Stowers by Tuesday afternoon.
