plans to upgrade roof
During its Monday meeting, the Walnut Ridge Airport Commission discussed options for upgrading the roof of the building leased by V & B Manufacturing (the old Frolic Footwear building).
The building, which currently has a flat roof with a raised portion in the middle, has been holding water and leaking. Chairman Dan Coker said that the building is dry now after some temporary repairs were made but a more permanent solution is needed.
The commission is planning to install a pitched roof on the building to allow proper drainage. Initial quotes have been received and negotiations are to be opened with Terry Mashburn Roofing Co. before a decision is made.
In other business, the commission discussed the possibility of building additional hangers at the airport with grant money. A percentage would have to by paid by the airport but Coker said he's confident they could get their investment back.
"I believe we could rent six hangers in six months," he said.
The commission will continue to look at options for the hangers.
Also at the meeting:
- Manager Michelle Anthony informed the commission that earthquake drills through ADEM and FEMA have been conducted according to plan and the next one is scheduled for July 30.
- commissioners approved a written earthquake plan as presented by Anthony. The Walnut Ridge Airport will act as ground zero for the area should a disaster occur.
