School board filing
ends with no races
The filing period for school board candidates has ended, and there will be no races in this year's election, said County Clerk Tina Stowers.
The board of the Lawrence County School District, which consists of the Walnut Ridge and Black Rock consolidated districts, has decided to ask for a millage increase and is finalizing plans for placing that issue on the ballot, Stowers added.
Danny Morgan, Zone 1, and Dean Parsley, Zone 6, are both incumbents and have filed for re-election to their respective board seats.
Wesley Gates, incumbent, has filed for re-election to the seat he currently holds on the board.
Vickie C. Mitchell of Walnut Ridge has filed for the open seat on the school board. Terry Kelley, who has served on the Lawrence County School District board for the past 10 years, is not seeking re-election.
Chris Jones, incumbent, has filed for re-election to the Sloan-Hendrix School Board.
With no school board elections, only the Lawrence County School District will be conducting an election on Sept. 16. Other districts will conduct their elections solely through absentee or early voting.
Non-registered voters will have until Monday, Aug. 18, to register to vote in this election.
