Fran Cavenaugh, Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce chair and CFO of Cavenaugh Auto Group, is working to turn the dilapidated property at 123 West Main Street into a new event center.

The center, to be called The Studio, will feature a 5,100-square-foot event space as well as a catering kitchen and large bathrooms with lounge areas. The center will be able to house 300 people at one time.

The Studio will be styled similarly to The Venue. Cavenaugh said they are trying to use as much of the original building as possible. Many of the building's windows and the tin ceiling will be restored.

Cavenaugh said The Venue will remain open and could be used alongside The Studio for certain events. An option for weddings will be to hold the ceremony at The Venue and have the reception at The Studio.

The larger event space should also allow adequate room for live concerts, according to Cavanaugh. "That would be a big draw for downtown Walnut Ridge," she said.

The building has been cleared of most of the debris and painting will begin this week.
