Polling site changes for WR voters
Election Commissioner Tommy Holland has announced that the polling site for Walnut Ridge voters, Campbell 1, 2, 3 and 4, as well as Richwoods and Cache, has changed.
Voters in these precincts have voted for many years at the Walnut Ridge Community Center. However, effective with the Republican runoff on Tuesday, voting will now take place at the Lawrence County Meeting Room, located adjacent to the Lawrence County Library in downtown Walnut Ridge.
Holland shared several reasons for the change in the polling location. In recent years, the voting process has changed from paper ballots to electronic machines. With the electronic equipment, more electrical outlets are needed. Also, voting equipment is stored at the Lawrence County Meeting Room, so keeping it in the same building for elections will help prevent wear and tear on the equipment.
Holland noted that having elections at the community center is disruptive for the Walnut Ridge Senior Citizens meetings held there and for school activities that must be scheduled around election days. Lastly, construction work is also slated for the Community Center.
