Freeman, Yates win county races

Tuesday was Election Day and in addition to statewide Democratic and Republican races for governor and Republican races for lieutenant governor, attorney general, state treasurer and auditor of state, there were four county races decided by Lawrence County Democratic voters.

County Clerk Tina Stowers has released the following unofficial results.

Incumbent Dale Freeman was elected as county judge on the Democratic ballot over John Thomison by a vote of 1,203 (59 percent) to 827 (41 percent).

In the sheriff's race, Jeff Yates defeated Joseph Allen Warnick by a vote of 1,818 (91 percent) to 176 (nine percent). Current Sheriff Jody Dotson did not seek re-election.

Sewer main damaged in Hoxie

Hoxie Mayor Lanny Tinker gave an update on the damaged sewer main, located under Broad Street near Hoxie Church of Christ, at the Hoxie City Council meeting on May 13.

Sanders to give WRHS address

Senator David J. Sanders of Little Rock will give the main address at the Walnut Ridge High School commencement for the class of 2014. The ceremony is set for Friday at 7 p.m. in Sharum Gymnasium.
