Sloan-Hendrix's Syd Humes captured the title in the shot put during the 2A State Track Meet in Gurdon with a throw of 47' 2.5".

Humes wins state title

The Sloan-Hendrix High School track team competed in the 2A State Meet on May 6 at Gurdon.

Senior Syd Humes won the state title in the shot put with a throw of 47'2.5" on his final attempt, outdistancing the second-place finisher by an inch. Humes also placed fourth in the discus.

Other events that Greyhounds participated in included:

Boys

Zach Anderson - 1,600 meters and 3,200 meters.

Dylan Wood - 300-meter hurdles.

Members of the 4x100-meter relay team were Tyler Lepard, Christian Capps, Nathan DeShazo and Wood.

Girls

Jessie Powell - 800 meters, 1,600 meters and 3,200 meters.

Members of the 4x100-meter relay team included Bailey Bradley, Ashley Chavez, Ashlyn Hayes and Rachel King.

The 4x400-meter relay team consisted of Bradley, Hayes, King and Courtney Winston.

The 4x800-meter relay team included Powell, Bradley, King and Winston.
