PLACE SEVENTH IN RELAY - Stacy Maxwell runs her leg of the 4x800 relay, in which she and teammates Meridith Helms, Emilia Holder and Samantha Tacker finished seventh with a time of 14:21.32 at the 1A state track meet held May 5 in Green Forest.

Bobcats are regional champs

The Walnut Ridge Bobcat baseball team defeated Marked Tree 6-1 in the championship game of the 2A North Regional Tournament on Monday at Lepanto.

Walnut Ridge advances to the 2A State Tournament, hosted by Woodlawn High School at Rison. The Bobcats will face Dierks in the first round on Thursday at 10 a.m.

Against Marked Tree, Walnut Ridge moved out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning on a sacrifice fly by Martin Crisler, which scored Layne Ditto. A wild pitch by the Indians' hurler resulted in the Bobcats' second run.

Humes wins state title

The Sloan-Hendrix High School track team competed in the 2A State Meet on May 6 at Gurdon.

Senior Syd Humes won the state title in the shot put with a throw of 47'2.5 on his final attempt, outdistancing the second-place finisher by an inch. Humes also placed fourth in the discus.
