Early voting underway

Early voting started this week and will continue through May 19. Over a hundred Lawrence County residents have cast their votes in the first two days of voting.

Early voting for the preferential primary and judicial election started Monday and will continue through May 19 at the county clerk's office in the Lawrence County Courthouse in Walnut Ridge.

Hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday. Voting will close at 5 p.m. on Monday, May 19.

The election will be certified at 2 p.m. on May 27 in the office of the county clerk.

Races on the democratic ballot include:

  • County judge - incumbent Dale Freeman and John Thomison.

  • Sheriff - Jeff Yates and Joseph Allen Warnick.

  • Justice of the peace, position 2 - incumbent Donald Richey and Coty Powers.

  • Justice of the peace, position 9 - incumbent Alex A. Latham and Kendell Snedeker.
