Walnut Ridge woman

Gretchen Hunt

A two-vehicle accident on Monday afternoon at 2:26 claimed the life of a Walnut Ridge woman, according to WRPD Chief Richy Thatcher.

Carmen Stayton, 65, was killed when the 2008 Toyota car she was driving westbound on East Main Street in Walnut Ridge, was struck by a 2002 Dodge pickup that was traveling northbound on Southeast Fourth Street.

According to the report, the truck failed to stop at the stop sign and struck the driver's side of the Toyota.

Andrea Spradling, 33, of Pocahontas, the driver of the pickup, was transported by ambulance to Lawrence Memorial Hospital and then airlifted to The Med in Memphis.

The vehicles came to rest in the parking lot of Main Street Church of Christ, where three parked vehicles were also struck and damaged.

Visitation for Stayton will be this evening from 6:30-7:30 at House-Gregg Funeral Home. A full obituary can be found on page 2A of this week's edition.
