COMPETE IN CLASSIC - Cameron Durham pitches for the Hillcrest Screamin' Eagles Saturday afternoon against Salem during a classic played at Tuckerman on Friday and Saturday. The game ended in a 4-4 tie. The Screamin' Eagles also faced Tuckerman, winning 8-3, and Marmaduke, losing 4-6. The classic was originally slated to be at Cedar Ridge but was moved to Tuckerman after Cedar Ridge made it to the state finals in basketball.

Walnut Ridge opens
season with wins

The Walnut Ridge Bobcats opened the 2014 baseball season with a 20-6 drubbing of Manila on March 10.

The visiting Lions scored two runs in the top of the first inning, but Walnut Ridge answered with four runs in the bottom half of the inning and stretched the lead to 5-2 with a single run in the second.

After Manila closed to within 5-3, the Bobcats took control of the game with a six-run third inning to make the score 11-3.

Lady Cats record wins

Walnut Ridge opened the 2014 softball season with a pair of convincing victories last week.

The Lady Bobcats routed 2A-2 conference opponent Cotter 21-5 in five innings at Cotter on March 11.

Sabrina Knight went 3-for-4 with a triple and a double and scored four runs, while Makayla Daniels went 3-for-4 with two doubles.

Hannah Massey pitched all five innings, allowing three earned runs with two strikeouts.
