Arthur Leo Johnson

Derek and Rachel Johnson of Jonesboro have announced the birth of a son, born Feb. 21, 2014, at St. Bernards Birthcare Center in Jonesboro.

The baby weighed eight pounds, one ounce, and has been named Arthur Leo Johnson. He has one sister, Lillian Mae Johnson.

Grandparents are Ron and Pam Johnson of Walnut Ridge, Doug Barton of Little Rock and Tim and Laura Woodall of Sheridan.

Great-grandparents are Murray and Elaine Barton of North Little Rock, Linda Johnson of Black Rock and Bob and Lenda Bellah of Walnut Ridge.

Land - McQuay

Crystal Land of Hoxie and Jonathan Land of Paragould have announced the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Rachel Blair Land, to Cason Arnold McQuay, son of John McQuay and Sherry McQuay, both of Walnut Ridge.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Reggie and Kathy Bennett of Paragould and Jack Land of Hoxie and the late Sharon Land.

She is a 2013 Hoxie High School graduate and was salutatorian of her graduating class. She is a full-time nursing student at Black River Technical College in Pocahontas.

The prospective groom is the grandson of Don and Gail Arnold of Walnut Ridge and Joe and Uta McQuay of Jonesboro.

He is a 2013 graduate of Walnut Ridge High School and is employed on his family's farm, Arnold and Jacobs Farms.

The couple will exchange vows on March, 29, 2014, at 4 p.m. at The James Ranch in Pocahontas. All family and friends are invited to attend.

Louise Clark

Louise Clark, 79, of Walnut Ridge, died Feb. 27, 2014, at her home.

Born Jan. 25, 1935, she was the daughter of Fred and Etta Pickett Hodge. She was a retired bookkeeper, having owned several businesses in Lawrence County.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy E. Clark; infant children, Daphine and Ethan Earl Hodge; a brother, Bobby Hodge; and a sister, Maxine Cypret.

Survivors include two daughters, Karen Coffey and husband Tim, Clearwater, Fla., and Debra Coker and husband Danny, Walnut Ridge; two brothers, Fred Hodge Jr., Walnut Ridge, and Donny Hodge, Conway; two sisters, Mable Jones, Hoxie, and Linda Clayton, Heber Springs; three grandchildren, Jennifer Rice, Dandy Coker and Dana Jo Coker; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home with Derek Collins officiating. Burial was in Lawrence Memorial Park.

Pallbearers were Kenneth Rice, Tim Coffey, Dandy Coker, Jason Leake, Kane Rice and Nathan Romine.

Maxine Cypret

Vivian Maxine Whitehurst Cypret, 87, of Little Rock, died Feb. 26, 2014, at Hospice Home Care Center in Little Rock.

Born Nov. 3, 1926, in Portia, she was the daughter of Fred and Etta Hodge.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Hodge; and a grandson, Scott Smith.

Her sister, Alice Louise Clark of Walnut Ridge, died Feb. 27, 2014.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda Hardy and husband Larry and Barbara Smith and husband Vic, all of Little Rock; two sisters, Mable Jones and husband Buck, Walnut Ridge, and Linda Clayton, Heber Springs; two brothers, Fred Hodge and wife Marilyn, Walnut Ridge, and Donnie Hodge and wife Sue, Conway; three grandchildren, Belinda Reynolds, John Hardy and Stacy Smith; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Friday at 10 a.m. at Calvary Church of the Nazarene in Little Rock with Rev. Rodney Shanner officiating. Burial was in Copper Springs Cemetery in Cleburne County under the direction of Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth Funeral Home.

Thomas Jene Davis

Thomas Jene Davis, 88, of Germantown, Tenn., died Feb. 19, 2014.

Born March 27, 1925, in Black Rock, he was the son of Thomas and Tessie Payne Davis. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a master plumber and a Mason. He was a member of the Memphis Yacht Club and the Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Francine Melville Davis.

Graveside service was Friday, Feb. 21, at 11 a.m. at Oak Forest Cemetery. Bryan Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Jimmy Terry Durham

Jimmy Terry “Bull Durham #3” Durham, 60, of Smithville, died March 1, 2014, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Born Feb. 5, 1954, in Walnut Ridge, he was a farmer and retired from CenturyLink after 30 years of service. He lived most of his life in Lawrence County and was a member of the Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Boyce Durham; and a nephew, Justin Sloan Durham.

Survivors include his wife, Julie Durham; four daughters, Lacy Ann Durham Price and husband Josh, Ozark, Mo., Kari Erin Durham, Pocahontas, Ashton Brooke Martin, Smithville, and Kristi Lea Mitchell, Hoxie; two sons, Shawn Mitchell Durham and wife Corie, and Connor Blaine Durham, all of Smithville; his mother, Martha Ann Penn Durham, Smithville; three brothers, Denny Boyce Durham and wife Kelly, Imboden, Michael Blaine Durham and wife Becky, Denton, and William “Sloan” Durham and wife Dina, Smithville; and seven grandchildren, Alexis Ann Durham, Austin Michael Campbell, Briley Jo Leann Price, Jaxton Brent “Cache” Price, Dallas Michael Durham, William “Bentley” Durham and Corey Glenn Thrasher.

Funeral was Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the Lynn Church of Christ with Tommy Boles officiating. Burial was in Fortenberry Durham Cemetery under the direction of House-Gregg Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Denny Durham, Mike Durham, Sloan Durham, Shawn Durham, Josh Price and Tony Fowler. Honorary pallbearers were Charles Durham, Scott Watkins, Frank Fowler, Shane Holder, Steven Birmingham, Courtney Durham, John Parks, Charles Penn, Nathan Howard, Larry Evans, Corey Thrasher and many great family and friends that are too numerous to mention.

Harold C. Foley

Harold C. Foley, 80, of Burton, Mich., died Feb. 27, 2014, at his home.

Born Jan. 5, 1934, in Smithville, he was the son of Clyde and Emma Young Foley. He was a U.S. Army veteran and worked for General Motors Fisher Body in Grand Blanc, Mich., for 35 years before retiring in 1991. He also owned Foley's Maple Lawn Company for over 35 years. He attended Calvary United Methodist Church and was a member of the Burton Eagles and UAW Local 1292.

He was preceded in death by three children, Alan, Russell and Bonnita; a sister, Joyce Hill; and three brothers, W.H. “Bill” Foley, Leon Foley and Charles Foley.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon Allen Foley, whom he married Oct. 26, 1957; a son, Harlan Foley and wife Karen, Southampton, N.Y., two sisters, Mary Root, Birch Run, Mich., and Shirley Kelley, Arkansas; a sister-in-law, Anna Foley, Flint, Mich.; and four grandchildren, David Foley, Harrison Foley, Hannah Spater and Connor Foley.

Funeral was Monday at 2 p.m. at Swartz Funeral Home in Flint with Philip Baldwin officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery. Military honors were provided by VFW Post #822 Honor Guard.

Memorials may be made to the University of Michigan Hospital for cancer research.

Betty Ruth Green

Betty Ruth Green, 76, of Imboden, died Feb. 27, 2014, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro.

Born Sept. 7, 1937, in Paragould, she was the daughter of Joseph Madison and Geraldine Mary Hendrix Burkhammer. She was a retired school bus driver and cook.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jess Willard Green, on Oct. 4, 1998, whom she married July 17, 1955; and a brother, Marion Burkhammer.

Survivors include three daughters, Marsha Garza and husband Mario, Oklahoma City, Okla., Rose Crawford and husband Joe, Imboden, and Emerald Welch and husband Jerry, Hardy; three sons, Paul Green, Ravenden, Johnny Green and wife Kathy, Imboden, and Charles Green, Corona, Calif.; two sisters, Joyce Birdsong, Hardy, and Elaine Stoll, Ravenden; a brother, Cloyce Burkhammer, Agnos; eight grandchildren, Dana Dobbins, Joey Crawford, Jessie Crawford, Leslie Green, Chrissy Welch, Caitlyn Garza, Celine Garza and Megan Welch; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Friendship Methodist Church with Bro. John Stoll officiating. Burial was in Friendship Cemetery under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Joey Crawford, Sean Dobbins, Joe Giles, Tim Giles, Thomas Stoll and Gerald Welch. Honorary pallbearers were Anthony Burkhammer, Jonathan Green, Cliff Henry, Davy Lawrence and Bob Tomlinson.

Veda Fay Ingram

Veda Fay Bookout Ingram, 93, died Feb. 26, 2014, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.

Born June 28, 1920, in Salem, she was the daughter of Howard and Mary Berry Bookout. She was a lifetime resident of Lawrence County and a member of Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in Walnut Ridge.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Troy Ingram; a daughter, Etta Fay Teel; four brothers, Tob Bookout, Deb Bookout, John Bookout and Van Bookout; a sister, Ruby McKnight; and a grandson, Josh Barnes.

Survivors include two sons, Bob Ingram and wife Nancy, Walnut Ridge, and Bill Ingram and wife Shelia, Annieville; two daughters, Mary Spargo and husband Charles, and Fran Barnes and husband Ronnie, all of Walnut Ridge.

Funeral was Saturday at 2 p.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home with Harold Russell and Charles Hendrix officiating. Burial was in Austin Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ron Ingram, Hunter Ingram, Richard Spargo, John Manning, Cody Rounsaville and Jon Rowell.

Ola Mae James

Ola Mae James, 77, of Ravenden, died Feb. 25, 2014, at Woodlawn Heights Nursing Home in Batesville.

Born Jan. 30, 1937, in Hoxie, she was the daughter of Grant and Mirl Easter Doyle Howell. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewell James; a sister, Darlene Golden; and a grandson, Jarrod Hobbs.

Survivors include a son, Scott James and wife Terry, Ravenden Springs; three daughters, Teresa Elkins and husband Jerry, Batesville, Donna Golden and husband Greg, Pine Bluff, and Monica James and husband Randall Puckett, Portia; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Graveside service was Friday at 2 p.m. at Taylor Cemetery with Bro. Richard Robinson officiating. Faith Funeral Service of Manila had charge of arrangements.

Harrell Dean Justus

Harrell Dean Justus, 75, of Forrest City, formerly of Jonesboro, died Feb. 28, 2014, at Wynne.

Born March 13, 1938, in Smithville, he was the son of Eli Newton and Flossie Cornelia Winters Justus. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and worked as a purchasing agent for FMC for many years. He was of the Methodist belief.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Regina Ann Justus.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Ann Gillam Justus, whom he married Nov. 19, 1967, in Walnut Ridge; a daughter, Tammy Freligh and husband David, Forrest City; a brother, Bob Justus and wife Janet, Jonesboro; and two grandchildren.

Funeral is today at 11 a.m. at Cox-Fears Funeral Home in Walnut Ridge with Rev. Harold Russell officiating. Burial will be in Smithville Cemetery.

Visitation is today from 10 a.m. until time of the service.

Pallbearers will be Scott Justus, Blake Justus, Jeremy Gillam, Doug Gillam, James Gillam and Dennis Gillam. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Schmidt and Bobby Lyles.

Opal Marie Lester

Opal Marie Lester, 88, of Imboden, did Feb. 28, 2014, at her home.

Born April 22, 1925, in Williford, she was the daughter of Coleman and Jessie Lee Bayers Morgan.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Thorton Eugene Lester and Johnny Lavain Lester; two brothers, four sisters and seven grandchildren.

Survivors include five sons, Leon Lester, Indiana, Bill Lester and Bobby Lester, both of Florida, and James Lester and George Lester, both of Arkansas; two daughters, Rayetta Carroll, Indiana, and Debbie Kirkpatrick, Missouri; 32 grandchildren; and 67 great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Cox-Fears Funeral Home with Max Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Bradford Cemetery at Ravenden.

Visitation is Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Dale Brady, Charlie Lester, James Lester, Eugene Lester, Jesse Rohrer, Gregory Williams and David Lester.
