WR OKs funds
for industry

The Walnut Ridge City Council held a special meeting on Feb. 26 to discuss a resolution appropriating funds to ready an industrial site for a business that plans to locate here this spring.

The resolution authorized the appropriation of $10,000 from the General Fund for the purpose of preparing the selected site, and aldermen passed it unanimously.

Allegis Corporation, a USA based company, is a leading distributor of industrial hardware such as latches, handles, hinges and a wide variety of other products across the United States and around the world. The family- owned business plans to open a distribution and fulfillment center in the former Universal Asset Management building at the Walnut Ridge Regional Airport.

"They have required very little outlay from our city in order to locate here," Mayor Don House told the council. "The airport and the county will assist us in meeting their needs - a few improvements in the building and a covered shelter large enough to be used as a loading dock for two trucks. They also need a half-block-long street, and the county will absorb most of the cost of building the roadway."
