$13,000 RAISED - Derek Woodard makes a donation to Jennifer Archer (right) at the Make-A-Wish Have A Heart Radiothon bucket brigade Friday. Archer and many other volunteers dressed up in costumes for the event. The local efforts raised $13,000 to go towards the Jonesboro Radio Group's fundraiser. The Walnut Ridge Key Club raised $1,942 and Hoxie Elementary School raised $750. The rest of the money was raised at the bucket brigade locations in Walnut Ridge and Hoxie.

Primary filing period slated

The filing period for the May 20 Primary Election, as well as the non-partisan judicial election, will begin Monday at noon.

Weather causes strain on Hoxie water system

Freezing temperatures have caused a strain on Hoxie's water system according to Mayor Lanny Tinker.

Council approves commissioner

The Walnut Ridge City Council approved the appointment of Dr. Brett Cooper of Williams Baptist College to the Walnut Ridge Airport Commission at their meeting on Feb. 11. Cooper, who is vice president for institutional advancement at WBC, had provided the council with a resume so they would have an idea of his qualifications.

Power outage affects many in county

A breaker failure at the Entergy substation on Midway Road in Walnut Ridge caused widespread power outage in Lawrence County yesterday afternoon according to David Burnette, customer service manager for Entergy Arkansas.
