Hoxie - Piggott
The Hoxie Mustangs defeated 3A-3 Conference opponent Piggott 57-51 in senior boys action Friday night at Hoxie.
The Mustangs jumped on the Mohawks early, leading 20-9 at the end of the first quarter. Hoxie stretched its lead to 38-18 at halftime and led 44-30 after three quarters.
Tristan Sisco led Hoxie with 21 points, which included five three-pointers. James Johnson finished with 11 points, and Slade Sullens added 10.
The Mustangs improved to 4-9 in conference play and 5-11 overall with the win.
Piggott won a junior boys game 34-29.
It was a tale of two halves when the Sloan-Hendrix Lady Greyhounds hosted Pangburn in 2A-2 action at Imboden on Friday. The Lady Hounds exploded for 55 points in the second half to rally past the Lady Tigers 66-59 for their fifth consecutive victory.
Pangburn led 25-11 at halftime, but Sloan-Hendrix began their comeback in the third quarter and trailed only 36-33 heading into the fourth period. The Lady Greyhounds doubled their point total in the final quarter, outscoring Pangburn 33-23 in the period to claim the win.
Britney Wolfe led Sloan-Hendrix with 30 points, including 24 in the second half. Alyssa Nichols was strong on both ends of the court, finishing with 17 points and eight blocked shots. Brittany Gosha contributed 12 points.
The Lady Greyhounds improved to 8-6 in conference play and 16-9 overall.
Maynard defeated Black Rock 61-30 in 1A-3 East senior girls action at Maynard.
The Black Rock junior girls picked up a win, defeating Maynard 43-38.
Hillcrest - Midland
Colman Evans scored 30 points to lead the Hillcrest Screamin' Eagles to a 64-47 win over the Midland Mustangs in senior boys action at Pleasant Plains.
The Eagles took command of the game early, racing to a 20-9 lead in the first quarter and holding leads of 34-22 at halftime and 46-34 after three quarters.
Randall Scott added 10 points, and Evan Doyle grabbed 10 rebounds for Hillcrest.
The Hillcrest junior boys defeated Midland 47-33.
In senior girls action, Caitlin Whitmire hit six three-pointers and finished with 21 total points to lead the Lady Screamin' Eagle to a 75-65 overtime win over the Lady Mustangs.
The contest was tied 12-12 at the end of the first quarter, 22-22 at halftime and 61-61 at the end of regulation.
Hillcrest hit several clutch free throws in overtime to pull away for the win. The Lady Eagles were 21-of-26 from the charity stripe for the game.
The win was the third straight for the Lady Screamin' Eagles and boosted their overall record to 7-15.
Manila's senior girls defeated Hoxie 66-32 in 3A-3 Conference action at Hoxie.
Manila led 30-21 at halftime and 48-27 after three quarters.
Brandy Alls scored 12 points to lead the Lady Mustangs.
Hoxie won a junior girls game 38-12.
Hillcrest - Mammoth Spring
Hillcrest's senior boys clinched a tie for the 1A-2 North Conference title with a 70-51 win at Mammoth Spring on Jan. 28.
Evans turned in another big game, scoring 36 points for the Screamin' Eagles. Alex Helms contributed 12 points, and Scott added 11.
The Hillcrest senior girls routed Mammoth Spring 66-31.
Whitmire was on fire for the Lady Eagles, canning seven three-pointers and finishing with 23 points. Natalie Glenn scored 16 points, while Katelyn Richey and Stacy Maxwell each chipped in with 11 points.
Hillcrest's junior high girls defeated Mammoth Spring 44-34 to earn second place in the conference.
Hoxie's senior boys defeated the Corning Bobcats 51-37 in 3A-3 action at Hoxie.
The Mustangs led just 37-35 after three quarters, before outscoring the Bobcats 14-2 in the final period to secure the victory.
Alex Carpenter hit five three-pointers and finished with 18 points to lead Hoxie. Sisco added 11 points.
Corning won a junior boys game 55-11.
The Sloan-Hendrix Lady Greyhounds defeated Salem 53-39 at Imboden.
Sloan-Hendrix led 16-6 after the first quarter, 26-15 at halftime and 42-25 after three quarters.
Wolfe led the Lady Greyhounds with 18 points, and Nichols added 16.
Ridgefield Christian defeated Black Rock 61-43 in 1A-3 East senior boys action at Black Rock.
Derek Nunally scored 24 points for Black Rock.
